RI said 3rd, maybe 2nd & that Vinny & crew had him rated as 2nd.

Most scouts thought he'd go as high as 3 to as low as 6 in this years draft, so there is a debate about his talent level. He had a good year in '07 but obviously didn't play last year. Since we coughed up a 3rd I expect him to contribute some this season but hopefully he'll have a bigger role in 2010. I think Buzbee gets cut, and Jarmon has a chance to backup one of the starting end's.

When we pick 32nd next year, that 3rd will essentially be a 4th.

We won more with Vinny

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I like the pick - just comparing him to another SEC talent Robert Ayers I think Jarmon stacks up pretty well:

According to Gil Brandt here is Jarmon's pro day:
Supplemental draft features some players to watch

Jarmon held a Pro Day on July 9 and ran indoors on FieldTurf. He posted a 4.8-second 40-yard dash, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump, a 4.28 short shuttle, a 7.38 three-cone drill and did 19 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press. He looked very good in positional drills.

Now here is Robert Ayers pro day stats:
Robert Ayers | Tennessee, DE : 2009 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Combine:
Height: 6031
Weight: 272
40 Yrd Dash: 4.77
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 18
Vertical Jump: 29 1/2
Broad Jump: 08'06"

Pro Day:
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.46
3-Cone Drill: 7.07

They also had similar stats: Jarmon had 3 1/2 sacks, 5 hurries and 10 tackles for loss in 2008, while Ayers had 3 sacks, 5 hurries and 17 tackles for loss. The last stat is the big differentiator, but here is another: Jarmon had 9 sacks, 3 hurries and 16 TFLs in 2007 vs. Ayers' 4 sacks, 3 hurries and 13 TFLs.

So if the Broncos used the 18th pick in the first round on Ayers while the Skins used a third rounder on Jarmon I think we did pretty well...

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

The supplemental draft is supposed to be "bargain shopping" you should be able to get Day 1 talent with Day 2 picks. If you rate a guy as a 2nd round talent, then you want to pick him in the 4th round or later in my opinion. I think that this was a reach and I hope that I am not bitching about it still in April.

3rd rounder is a Day 2 pick

Edit: I misread your post...or did I? The ol' Warpath version of the "Jedi mind Trick"

Yes but it is still practically day 1 talent. I just think its too high now matter how you think about it.

Wait, didn't I just say 3rd rounder is a day 2 pick? Why'd you say not anymore?

I mis-read your post and now I'm all confused.

Lets keep it simple. I would have been ok with a 4th round pick. 3 was too high IMO.

Not really. Undrafted free agents are 'bargain shopping'; the supplemental draft is only for players that became ineligible after the regular draft. The rule of thumb for draft slot is similar to trading next years pick for an additional one this year. If you want a 3rd, it's going to cost you a 2nd because you are getting an extra year of service. Same thing here, if he was graded now as a 4th, we got him in the 3rd because we are getting '09 playing time from a '10 draft pick. Make sense?

No, he played last year, he tested positive for a banned substance after the deadline for entering the 2009 Draft so he had to go the Supplemental Draft route. He had a great '07 (7 sacks) but his production was down in '08 (4 sacks) largely due to more attention and double teams. That's probably why there was such a range in his draft slot predictions if he came out in '09.

Yeah my bad, he had 9 ('07) then 4.5 ('08) but some scouts are saying his sacks dropped due to double teams in '08. Even though I think he's worth a 4th, I like the pick. This is an investment for the future w/ either Dainels, Wynn or both gone in 2010. This could be a solid draft with Orakpo, Barnes and Jarmon making a impact in their rookie year. Who can tell me how they slot Jarmon in terms of his contract?

Sounds like the Lions were ready to take him at the top of the 4th.
