Cooley comments on Jason Taylor

I was pretty upset about this when it happened but I am starting to think it was the right move to let him go.

I don't think he is motivated (walking away from 8.5 million is pretty strong evidence) enough to keep around. This team does not need anyone who is not 1000% committed to spilling their guts for the team next year (another reason why I think letting Springs go was smart).

That still doesn't change my view that looking at the Taylor transaction in it's entirety was completely idiotic.

Whatever his reasons where I say good riddance. I don't want any player who isn't with the program on the rosters.

I think JC is beyond needing the $. I think he lost the fire to play and the workout schedule thing was a convenient excuse to get out. In a way I applaud his decision. He could have stuck around, gone thru the motions and collected a paycheck but deep down he knows he doesnt have the desire anymore so he took the first out he could get. I dont know why any Skins fan would be upset with him.

I agree, his agent said something similar, that they'd could've accepted the terms & then JT could've skipped a lot of the workouts, but he didn't want to do that. I appreciate that he didn't come back for the $, he might've been doing us a favor.

Can't blame him for being traded here either, but you can blame the Skins for giving up a 2nd round pick. Just take a cursory glance at trades of the past 5 years. How often have good players gone for 3rd round picks or less? A lot, especially when you factor in his huge salary. Nobody else was going to give Miami that much, not to mention we threw in a 6th rounder!

I liked the trade at the time but not the price we paid.

It seems like maybe the skin's wanted to make sure he was around to make sure he was healed up and had his strength back to 100% after last year. 8.5 mil is a lot of coin to risk a player not being back to 100% after an injury.

Also, and maybe more importantly, I believe Blanch is being pressured to change the scheme around Haynesworth (and to a lesser extent Hall) to add more pressure on the opposing QB's. Blanch didn't like Taylor's freelancing and he couldn't have both him and Haynesworth doing it, so he choose Haynesworth to be "that guy". In that case he needed Taylor around to learn the new LB/DE position nuances during the offseason workouts. Taylor wouldn't, therefore his effectiveness in the system was to much of a risk for his salary.

Good point. Deep down he just doesn't want to play anymore. I'm not mad at him, I'm just mad about the draft picks. But what's done is done and it's soooooo time to move on from this subject. Hopefully Vinny and co. will learn from this horrible trade.

Vinny & Co. never learn their lesson just look at this offseason. The Skins are back to their free spending ways for players I am afraid at the end of the day wont make much of a difference. I'd have rather had them get 4 $20 mil lineman instead of 1 for $100mil. As long as DS & Vinny are in charge this team will continue to rule the off season and be also-rans once the season starts.

The team has gotten rid of older players (Washington, Springs, possibly Kendall) and brought young players (Haynesworth, Dock, adn Hall). The old Skins would have given Jason Taylor a new fat contract last year, and this year they would have overpaid for TJ Housh this year. Not to mention that the team is building through the draft (3 young receivers last year, and the possibility of a stud o-lineman this year). While making a splash by signing Haynesworth is very Snyderesque, I think they are slowly learning.

You know, that's a good point. If we would have seen Ray Lewis, Housh and a 3 year extension for Springs and Taylor then I could definitely sign off on 'same old Redskins' but like John Clayton said, since when is signing the best defensive lineman in the league a bad thing? There's a lot of prejudice when it comes to free agency that we buy into. I'm not trying to be a Snyderatto apologist but just because we spent a lot of $ (2 players with Redskins pedigree no less) doesn't equate to same old same old.

Well you have to realize that the contract isn't 100 mil it's really 4 years for 48 mil or something like that. Either way it's a shit load of money for a DT and one guy isn't going to make a huge difference ( unless it's a QB) so I agree with you. This isn't basketball. I like what the Giants are doing. Add some less expensive pieces to an already good team.

Ya know, I have never been anti-Giants, but I swear after listening to so many members here gush at the Giants off season moves I think I may :vomit:.

they now have 7 starting linemen all with solid salary cap numbers, not all 7 can play at once, a good 2nd year safety, so they go out and add a safety, don't do anything for their cornerback position. and on offense they let one of their EWF crew go to another team, don't upgrade the line(backups), don't upgrade receivers.

IMO for that kind of $ they could have rebuilt the entire line instead of just plugging in 1 player who like you said isnt really going to make much of a difference. If they had to spend that $ I'd have liked to see them take a run at Cassell. That is the position that is really holding this team back.

Jason Taylor is full of himself , and SH$T with all the people struggling just to put food on the table he turns down that much money for 10 months. I would NEVER watch a movie with him in it. what an A hole he owed us that much after paying him 8 mill for 3.5 sacks last year (even though she was hurt)..
