I read GTripp to say that the floor of the poll should be 4 wins, not 8.

But I look at the transactions and players in those positions now and it is just a different group.

Umenyiora - Gone
Canty - Gone
Boley - Gone

They were able to keep Kiwanuka but their best pass rusher, JPP, may or may not be ready for camp and may even start the season on the PUP due to back surgery he had in June. They added Dan Conner, but that is nothing to shout about. It should tell you something that Conner was signed as a FA last season and was released after only one season and could not get into the rotation.

And still no long term answer at the Safety position.

Of the 6 OGs, only 2 players have greater than 2 years experience (Snee & Boothe). Of the remaining 4, only 1 player has 2 years experience.

One of Eli's best targets of 2012 (Bennet) left for Chicago.

So, to me, anyway, they will look different on both sides of the ball.

Bright spot is, of course, the coaching and they are always capable of winning.

Good answer. I hope that you turn out to be correct.

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)

Why do people seem to think the Redskins will take a step back this year? I just don't see us having a worse record; several key players are back from injury, we have a rookie class with lots of potential, RG3 and Morris have NFL experience...

The only possibly negative things I can think of are:

1. A tougher schedule, but I don't think that will be a problem. It will just make us a better team for the playoffs.

2. Teams now have a full season of tape on our offense. Again, not much of a problem. Shanahan has said the playbook will evolve.

3. RG3's knee. He'll know how to protect himself better now, and even if he does get hurt, Cousins proved last season he can lead the team.

Yes those would be major reasons why. Just because we've been hearing great things about RG3s knee, doesn't mean know there won't be any setbacks or it'll affect his playing style. Also the NFC East is still a tough division so anything can happen. NFC East teams just don't repeat that easily. Also a lot of people are stuck with the old redskin teams in mind (2000's) that would do good or go to the playoffs then the next year they'd be in the bottom of the league again. Also our secondary sucked last year. We got some good (potentially) rookies, but at the end of the day, they are rookies.

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)

11-5. I think the Redskins will throw the ball more this year. RG3 will scramble less but will run with the football at times out of the read option. In the case of scrambling when the pass play breaks down, RG3 should have learned his lesson to protect himself better. The Redskins have Morris and one of the two rookie Jamison or Thompson will remind us of Ricky Ervins. In the passing game we have a lot of weapons: Garcon, Davis, Reed, Morgan, Robinson, Paulsen, Moss, and either Thompson or Jamison out of the backfield.

Defensively we have Orakpo back. Kerrigan should have a strong year. And of coursse there is Perry Riley and London Fletchers making tackles in the middle. We are stout and strong at defensive lineman. Then the secondary with Meriweather, Hall, Rambo, Thomas, Biggers, and Amerson.

If the Redskins can finish in the top 5 in both total offense and total defense the Redskins will win even more than 11 games in 2013.

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)

I got us at 10-6 and that could honestly swing either way. We have for decades played up or down to our opponents level and we need to stop that in order to have a legit shot at winning anything other than the NFC East....Sure the Division title is nice and I was pumped about it but you only have a short window to do things in this league and we need to start trending upward. We cant have any losses to the likes of teams we should be beating.

Here Is my Season Break down:
Skins vs Eagles WIN
Skins vs Packers Loss
Skins vs Lions Loss
Skins vs Raiders WIN
Skins vs Cowboys WIN
Skins vs Bears WIN
Skins vs Broncos Loss
Skins vs Chargers WIN
Skins vs Vikes WIN
Skins vs Eagles WIN
Skins vs 49ers LOSS
Skins vs Giants LOSS
Skins vs Chiefs WIN
SKins vs Falcons LOSS
Skins vs Cowboys WIN
Skins vs Giants WIN

You can take one of those wins against the Cowboys and possibly add another loss, I just do not think we sweep this Division, I feel like we have a shot against the Packers, and the Broncos but we may not be at that level yet and Rodgers and Manning are tough to crack, and I feel they will both be playoff contenders again. Falcons and 49ers will be the favs in the NFC again and we have yet to prove we can be at that level yet.

I feel like we make the playoffs again, win our first round game, and get knocked out in the 2nd round....but we build toward 2014 when we are in the NFC Championship game and possibly a SuperBowl appearance.

Not to fret over future unknowns, but one thing I noticed in the football mags is that our coaching staff (minus Danny Smith) all have been together for either 2 to 3 years. If we do as well as I expect, I think this may be the year we lose some of our coaches. And part of what makes me have high hopes this year, aside from Griffin and Morris, is the cohesiveness of the staff and players. I think everyone is on the same page now, and in football that is huge. Next year we may very well have new somethin' or others (OC, DC, etc)
