Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I think the defense uses hand signals. And Doughty says his hearing impairment makes it so he watches the ball being snapped instead of a hard count.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
What if Fletch needed to audible out of the formation and Doughty couldn't hear him (which he probably can't?) There's just subtle adjustments that have to made to compensate for the lack of hearing. Still, Reed deserves props for being able to overcome it. Count me in amongst one of the Doughty supporters, I think we could do far worse for a backup.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
That is what Reed is, but with the constant injury history of LL the last few years he starts more than he comes in for relief. As a backup he provides teams ability and like someone else said he is a sound tackler and possess great fundamentals.
I can't lie I have been waiting for someone to replace him, and it seems that the coaches have as well with all the safeties we brought in. We shall see if they think someone can replace him. I can't answer that question. I can really only see BM and T Jax As locked into the roster.

I get humor like that when I interact with humans face to face not through typing on a computer.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Reed is not bad when asked to stop the run or rush the QB, but when asked to cover a WR he's got to be one of the worst cover guys. Teams picked up on this. If he was close to the line the would either send the guy he was covering out for a pass (usually the RB), or watch to see if he backed off then run the ball.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Reed gives up plays passing plays against above average recievers but still he is a backup and I'm not sure there is a better special teams backup player on the roster that could fufill his role. Keep him on this years squad. I'm thinking this maybe the last year for Gholston considering we have alot of talented cheap young depth on the D line.

Fletcher use hands signals when he calls out an audible. Listening to QBs counting can draw players to go offsides, it is better to watch the ball. I hope you don't think that being deaf will affect player's abilities to play football well, or any other sports. |

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I've always liked Reed but he doesn't have top end speed. People see him in the TV shot and assume he's the one getting burned. Sometimes, but not always. Sometimes he's coming over to help and chasing down the tackle. I think it was the Colts game that the CB got burned and Reed chased the play down the sideline for a great open field tackle. IMO he's a top 50 NFL safety which makes him better than a lot of other options (Archuleta, OJ) we've had recently.
