there were some good OLB's on the board including my favorite sleeper Kaluka Maiava, WTF the corner is nice but not as badly needed as other positions even Lawrence Sidbury was available..again I say WOW!

HOWhowhow, if we are going to draft a CB, do we not draft D.J. Moore? How? and why draft a Cornerback, when Jamon Meredith is still available? I guess since Dan made such a good pick in the first round, he figured he had to negate it in the third by living up to his dumb ass reputation.

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion

The only reason corner makes any sense is if we are looking past 2009. We have five corners on the roster (Hall, Smoot, Rogers, Tryon, and Westbrook). Tryon and Westbrook haven't been impactful at all. Rogers is entering a contract year, and has struggled to be a 16-game starter. Smoot won't last forever. Hall, with his new deal, is the only entrenched CB for 2010. We need someone else, and Barnes must've impressed during the local workout.

This CB pick further indicates we are not gonna extend Carlos, which I think is a mistake. Dont see how we didnt go for the best OLineman availible...

First off, why we did not draft Jamon Meridith is beyond reason. OK, so maybe there is something that are scaring teams away from him. So maybe a CB makes sense, Rogers and Smoot are shaky at best. But then the real question is, why in the HELL did we not draft the BEST CB available, D.J. Moore. Why Dan? why?

Kevin Barnes is a beast, and the coaching staff must know him better than this Moore guy. Besides, Im not sold with Smoot as the 3rd corner. And before ppl get their panties in a bunch, there's a reason why players fall in the draft board (i.e. Meridith)

I agree w/ those who say Vinny's talent evaluation is suspect, especially beyond the earliest rounds, therefor Chad Rinehart become a 3rd rd pick instead of a 5th or 6th rounder. Not quite as bad as Oakland but not very smart either. I'd also say we needed a CB cuz Vinny screwed up last year, taking a guy who can't compete and we let the speedster, improving Torrence go.

...but i think the bigger issues are what we do to reinforce the aging o-line and our LB corp now. Injuries to our o-line are just guaranteed at this point, not in question. We need legit starting talent for backup (probably not a 3rd draft choice), so IMO the FO would be wise to pay a guy like Levi Jones to come over...he should be available soon. This will tell me the FO is serious about giving JC and the offense an opportunity to play consistent football. AT LB Hill will probably cost too much but man if we can find a way to make it work our d will be lights out!!! We'd probably have to cut either Daniels or Wynn (can't cut both) and Rock, which means we need to draft his replacement. Otherwise it's pretty imperative Marcus is brought back on board, which personally gives me great hope.

You are correct - there is not a strong chance that a 3rd rounder would be an instant starter at OT. You are always wisely pointing out the Levi Jones scenario. I would add that the Jags may be willing to release Tony Pashos now that they have stocked up at OT.

The Titans got Gerald McRath. This makes me sad. I've seen him play a lot and I thought he might be a good pickup for us.

Nice dig...we should be able to grab one of these talented vets w/o breaking the bank...man I hope the FO is thinking this way.

I like the pick too. Smoot is inconsistent and always gets banged up at some point. You can never have enough quality DB's.

I'd still like to get an extra pick late here so we can pick up a running back-Jennings, Sheets, and Ringer are all still available.
