Re: Trayvon Martin Case

Are they arresting him because they have evidence, or they just arresting him to appease the public and pushing for a guilty verdict regardless of evidence? Not sure I understand how there wasn't evidence prior, but not magically there is?

^^ Again, I think a lot of this is driven by the Self-Defense immunity law (not the Stand Your Ground law). Perhaps they have gathered more evidence that is, as of yet, unknown to the public.

I want to know where this guy is going to get a jury of people who have not already reached a conclusion in the matter.

Re: Trayvon Martin Case

I think if there is not enough evidence to convict him but he is found guilty I might riot in my neighborhood. I could burn down some kids fort, knock over a few bikes and raid a lemmonaid stand. If I feel real crazy I may even stomp on a neighbors garden.

I think it's the latter in this case. I honestly doubt we see a conviction if there's no new evidence.

Re: Trayvon Martin Case

I think an arrest is warranted and just. Now we will be able to hear all the evidence. I just hope now he gets a fair trial.

Feel like even if he doesn't get convicted in federal court, they'll probably take him to civil court for wrongful death. Don't see how he can't get convicted there.

Re: Trayvon Martin Case

Even in a wrongful death case, he still has the affirmative defense of self-defense. AND, if that defense is upheld in the criminal case, I am pretty sure it would be an effective bar to the civil claim under the doctrine of res judicata.

Also, this is a State charge. The Feds could charge him separately on a civil rights charge.

What federal civil charge might that warrant?

FBI agents on Monday were questioning potential witnesses in the Trayvon Martin shooting, confirming to NBC News that the agency had begun a "parallel investigation" that focuses on whether the teen's civil rights were violated.

Agents are seeking information on George Zimmerman's background and whether he was racially motivated when he pursued Martin after calling a 911 police dispatcher about his presence in the community, an FBI official told NBC.
