I probably should have left out the house/senate split.

Internet discussions are hard for the fine point of discussions.

From my perspective, it read like there was a very distinct line that you felt most republicans landed on. Either neo-con or putin wing.

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever

I used to semi some what like Levin. I listened to his show on WMAL on my rides home from work. He could give conservative talking points without the hystrionics.

When Trump first won, one of the big talking points was mexico would pay for the wall through tariffs and tariffs on china would be paid by China.

Levin clearly stated over and over thats not how sanctions work, the american people pay for tariffs. "I worked in the Reagan administration and we invented tariffs blah blah blah .."

First few months of Trumps presidency I thought Levin is really going to stick to what he believes and not go MAGA. Then Levin went MAGA .. havent heard his show in a while. Not even sure its still on WMAL.

---------

there are all talking heads. find someone who preaches your view point then just tune into them exclusively and swim around in your nice confirmation bias fish bowl.

i dont get worked up on what a levin or carlson say.

listening to WMAL today and they had a guy sitting in for Chris Plantt (thank god) and callers literally went like this (and the host is trying to talk about how Ukraine sunk a russian ship at port)

caller: "When you have the whole weight of the govt against one party, when one party controls the ballots, when one party controls the media ... why are we trying to bring change through the ballot boxes?"

host: "well i hope you dont mean a revolution but I do believe the way forward is through ballot boxes .. I hope you dont mean you want a revolution"

caller: "well when the govt is controlled by one party, one party is in control of the ballots putting up cardboard boxes, when one party has all these billionaires giving money .."

A LOT of conservatives legit think the election was rigged and the Dems secretly control the govt

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever

Our country is in such a weird place.

10% of us our whole identity is "make america white again"

10% is open borders, free healthcare, free college for illegals

80% talks politics like on here then goes home and drinks beer and eats chicken, like champions.

----------------

Has anyone here attended a MAGA or BLM rally? probably not. Even chico rocks trump hard but I dont see him spending his weekends holding up pro-life signs at liberal colleges. I bet chico drinks beer on the weekends, elbow to elbow with liberals and rednecks a like.

but that extreme 20% seems to dominate our news, our social media and politicians pander to the extreme base.

We vote D no matter what, you vote R no matter what ... and we keep rewarding these idiot politicians

Levin was in the position in 2016 of either sticking with his principals or losing his audience (The talk radio base audience became overwhelming MAGA). It is why I said he rolled over and showed his belly and is still afraid to accurately portray what even limited elements of MAGA are, even if he doesn't like some or even many of their positions.

(BTW Glenn Beck is another that showed his belly - ie broadcasters that vehemently opposed Trump and accurately described him that then bent the knee to keep their broadcast position).

I used to read every article on glenn beck back before he tried the glenn beck tv show and the website became glitzy/video clippy. It was maybe 5 new articles a day so it was easy to keep up. I agreed with him half the time but I did find he was honest in what he thought.

i think that teddy bear at the border thing back fired on him some how.

anyone not fully maga had to make a professional choice.

I like Levin pov…i probably agree 60% on macro issues, probably disagree less on random points or general things. I probably agree with around the same percentage with Carlson.

While nonniey is right about the definition of neo cons…and that’s an older strategy. The world changes, politics change, I disagree with his the populist’s view. I really think strategies can’t be evenly applied, imo it should be different in the Middle East, Russia, South America and other places abroad.

There is animosity in the GOP for Bush’s weapons of mass destruction witch hunt. Nothing has ever turned me more off in recent history than that. I really disliked Bush in his second term and actually voted Obama his first term.

I would go to maga rally for the people watching and the Trump humor.

iTrump is such an unlikeable personality and poor communicator. I mean is it a surprise a stereotypical aggressive, mean, lying, NY businessman be friends with someone like me, friends or family? Fuck no. He is easy to despise.

The problem with Trump, he got things done. And was right about a lot of things. That’s the big problem most people have with him.

It’s easy to trash Trump if he failed… if he had record high inflation, record illegals crossing across the boarder, allowed Russia to take Ukraine, record high energy prices, record high murder rates in liberal cities, record drug overdoses, had kids underperforming in schools across the country, Afghanistan debacle, etc.

So if that was his record, I could def see why he would trash him…that’s what you would expect from a guy not experienced and performing terrible.

LOL, he did fail, it's why he was not re elected DA. It's trump sheep like you that won't admit he is responsible for much of that if not all of it.

Should have been passed in 1900 the first time. Pretty shitty our representatives failed to pass this in 2018 and 2020. We have a long way to go before all citizens of this country feel welcome in this country.

Yup, crazy you could lynch someone up until today. It’s really interesting to see what people believe justice is.

Is it justice when a Fairfax county prosecutor gives fives months on multiple felonies to an animal who is released and a couple weeks later kills multiple homeless people across major cities.…or is it trash raised teenage predators who car jack an immigrant killing him only to be convicted as juveniles who will be released after the age 21? Maybe it’s justice that someone can get arrested in NYC for a hate crime against a Jew to be let out the same day only to be re-arrested a couple days later for another hate crime?

I agree, we got a long way to go. Maybe the actual prosecution laws and locking up of criminals would be a start

Of course it should be passed the first time it was introduced.

If you had to vote today, and it counted, for the 2024 election, who would you vote for?

This would actually be a good question for anyone here that participates in the political threads.

De Santis would have my vote as of today. The actual election is a long ways off, so there are more answers I need to know about him, but I like him so far.

Note - I transferred this post from the Ukraine thread because I don't want to distract from that discussion, which is infinitely more important than this question.
