Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!

From some rumblings we've heard so far it doesn't sound like the name will be changed.

If they do decide to change it, the new name better be a home run that wins over the majority or the new ownership groups risks souring fans right off the bat. I think they'd be better off putting their time and resources elsewhere but we shall see.

It risks souring 20% of the fans who say keep the name (But probably not since it looks like that group will accept anything) and placating a large percentage of the 80% that hate the stain. So it probably would be wise if they want a happy (happier) fanbase to change the name.

There is worst names then Commanders; of the 80% probably the majority hate change more then the name Commanders.

For me the only change that be better then Commanders would be REDSKINS; not happening.

Love to know where you are getting these percent's from as well.

The worst part about Commanders is there is no good way to shorten/abbreviate it. It's a long name with no viable options to shorten it like 'Skins.

Snyder was just a complete fuck-up in every since of the word. That man can't even win a coin toss in 100 flips.

Washington Oaks

(I actually would like this, original names are cool).

That is so true. Lol.
Every other team can either be abbreviated(fins) is short (jets) it flows (ravens) or you can abbreviate the city like Cincy.

We are stuck with the Wash Manders. Only us.

I hope they change the name. It seems crazy but I think from an outsider perspective they would understand new owner new name. Commanders is fucking terrible. Ive said before winning makes everything ok but it would be really great to win and have a cool name.

Well admittedly not scientific/controlled polls (eg the two polls on Redskins of Native Americans that had a 91-9 breakdown) but the social media and media question polls seem always to fall into that 80-20% breakdown.

I for one, would like a clean slate going forward. New owner, new stadium, new name. Wash all the Snyder leftovers down the drain, and hopefully winning as well. Like Kevin Sheehan said, call them something like the Washing Football Club and put the old logo back on on the helmets with the uniforms we used to have...best case scenario to me.

To me it sounds like they are trying to say all the right things and keep ramping up the fans fervor and not explicitly saying that they are or aren't changing the name and keep pointing the conversation towards winning and looking to the future.

IMO with the costs of re-branding yet again, that cant be a priority, not with the stadium in shambles and all the costs to fix it temporarily. And what the cost of building a new stadium will be, which is the ultimate goal, I think the compromise will be they will ultimately keep the Commanders name and re-design the uniforms to look like the Redskin/WFT ones and everyone will be happy, not really but close enough.

rebranding is a money maker . . . there are some upfront costs, but, especially with new ownership fever, the merchandize sales will be through the roofs. Source:

Quote:
"There's really some decent money in changing the logo," explains Nola Agha, an associate professor of sport management at the University of San Francisco and a board member for the North American Association of Sports Economists. "What you have is a new revenue stream ... from selling merchandise, licensing or anything that has the new logo on it."

It helps the team that NFL franchises tend to make money regardless of athletic performance. Kenneth Shropshire, the CEO of the Global Sport Institute at Arizona State University, notes that team values generally rise "no matter what shortfall is taking place at the moment."
That was from an old article, but have read many regarding it. and with the hate of the name Commanders, seems like merchandize sales for a new name selected by the fans would be a HUGE windfall of cash!!

I would think it would be a windfall for changing it once, but three times in 4 years? Not so sure about that. Besides the revenue sharing, it all goes into one pot and distributed evenly so I would think the other 31 owners would have a say as well.

this would be the only one the fans wanted . . . NOBODY i personally know that is a fan has bought anything with Commanders on it . . . NOBODY! Some of you may have, but i guarantee that if it is rebranded to a name selected by fans while the new ownership honeymoon is still in effect, just about everyone would buy something. I know I would. I actually got Johan Dodson jersey for Christmas last year and asked for a receipt to return it. I simply cannot wear that shit.

I just don't see them changing the name again. This is not some easy thing to do.

Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!

I think the name should be changed. Name is horrible but not the worst thing Snyder has done. However, there are other things that should be addressed first. I don't see the NFL allowing the name Redskins coming back (they will always be the Redskins to me) or letting them use the last logo before the name change. Old uniforms should come back - the ones we have now are horrible.

Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!

I agree 10000% change the damn name ………….. back to REDSKINS .. anything else doesn’t matter … and for the fans that hate the commanders name .. let me guess you like the Red wolves .. because it reminds you of redskins .. I get it however didn’t the team run into legal issues with using that name?? The whole wolf/wolves to me is no better than the commanders.. and don’t get me started on the other names we could have been .. the monuments, admirals, for goodness sake the Football team .. that was a damn joke .. unless it’s a name I gave not heard I’m happy with commanders unless it goes back to Redskins .. and that ain’t gonna happen ..

I think the "legal issues" with the Red Wolves name was a crock! Jason probably came up with that cover story because the fans wanted Red Wolves and Snyder was gonna have the name he wanted regardless of what the fans wanted.
