Re: F. . . The NFL draft.

I thought this thread was going to be a discussion of possibly not having a draft once the cba expires.

I know some people are upset by this & some, like Mike Wilbon, criticize the nfl for overmarketing & making a spectacle of something that's not even a game. But people watch it, including myself, and I'll be into that thursday night for sure. I like watching the nba draft, which is always at night, and I think it should be pretty cool for the nfl draft as well.

The NBA draft is great. Two rounds, five minutes between picks. It just flows so smoothly

I believe the earliest there would be no draft is 2012

So in that case would all college players essentially become free agents - able to sign with any team they liked? would there even be limits on how many years of college a player had play before becoming eligible to play in the NFL? No draft sounds like complete and utter chaos to me.

I don't know about eligibility but it would basically be like free agency. Teams would just bid and outbid on college players

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.

I think it opens up a ton of intrigue between Thursday and Friday. Prime wheeling and dealing time during the day Friday, ESPN's rumor mill and prognosticators will be going wild. As for the TV spectacle, I am sure it will get it's share of viewers, and be marketed for effect.

What's the point of a Redskins fan watching the draft? You know Vinny & Danny are going to pick WRs, TE, and QBS.

I must say last year's draft was very exciting - trading down and picking up 3 2nd round picks. it was like a fans dream come true.... then we picked all WRs and TEs.

Add that to this years and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't see any OTs or Gs that are worth a damn?

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.

i also would prefer the draft to occur on the weekend, i cant get all boozed up on a thursday evening, with work to follow that friday! as others have already said, after a season like this, draft day is one of the highlights for me.

on a more productive note, i wonder if this will change the way teams draft. with this three day scenario, they will have much more time to evaluate their boards, etc. what do you all think?

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.

I'll probably get to see more of it since it's on a Thursday night instead of a weekend. It's fine with me.

Re: F. . . The NFL draft.

I'm going to miss laying around on Sunday watching the "nobodies" get drafted. On a positive note, at least I don't need to wake up early but personally if they want to move the first round to primetime then they should move the second round with it.

Watching Orakpo fall was pretty exciting to but admittedly I was disappointed when Sanchez got drafted.
