He is one of those guys that just doesn't need football. His body let him down and he said f it. Good for him. He ain't coming back.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
I'm more concerned about the QB for the present.
With Smith we can get into the playoffs and maybe make some noise. Without Smith I'm worried about just getting to the playoffs. |

Watch, this week playing Wilson will be a different animal for the defense. Wilson is not Mullins. He is going to make plays and we don't have the offense to match. |

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
When Luck retired I thought maybe he'll sit out a season or two and come back. Now I think he's long gone and not coming back.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
I don't think we can go into next season assuming Alex can play a full 16 games.
Kyle Allen isn't good enough. Haskins made absolutely zero progress this season. Still absolutely dogshit footwork. It's not even footwork because he doesn't even use them at all. I just don't understand it. But he is done here. Unplayable. Gonna have to draft a young QB in the 1st couple rounds. I don't think we have an option.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
You simply have to draft a QB of the future and play him. Having a starting qb on a rookie deal is the best way to try and get a SB. Especially when you will have to pay guys on the d-line. We will probably lose one of them to be honest. No re- treads. Darnold is garbage. Guys like him are not the future of the league. We need a guy who can create offense can carry the team when the defense has a bad day. No pure drop back guys, they will be extinct in a few years.
However, I would have to think hard about Matt Stafford if he comes available, simply because he still has an elite arm and mobility. The Lions will have the chance to draft a rookie and with a new regime coming in a divorce may be what's best for everyone. I'd keep an eye out there. You put him on this team and we are the best in the division. |

Jimmy G is a prime cut candidate imo. Not sure if Id want him but hes better than what we have on the roster currently

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
We're not scoring with DH either and he will likely turn the ball over and make things even worse. Give me Smith over DH all day.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
I'd look at a trade for Stafford if we could somehow get around his huge cap hit. Defense is really good right now and will likely be hard to keep all of our defensive pieces together in time to wait for a late 1st round qb to develop.
Trade for Stafford or someone of that ilk, then draft a QB in round 3-4 to develop under him for 3 years or so.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
Also there are other contacts that could be done. RK amongst them. Love the guy but is he really necessary at this point with that group? Sure there are others. Bottom line is we are not “stuck” with Alex as the starter next year. Those guys get alot of money. Figure it the fuck out and get us a good quarterback while we have this defense locked up. This defense is ready to beat anyone anytime now.

Re: Wft quarterback of the future
You draft another young QB, keep Smith to mentor him, we need someone to move the ball, our O will be fine next year. We have contracts of key players coming up and the last you want to do is to throw unnecessary cash. Fitzmagic is hot and cold, no thanks. The others are cost prohibitive.
