I knew he was sick last year, but I thought I spotted him at the Bucs game this past preseason. I thought he had gotten over whatever was ailing him.

Is Jonathan Crompton good enough yet to be promoted to the active roster? I can't bare watching Rex Grossman playing QB for the Redskins a second longer and Beck is 0-7 as a starter and would be 0-8 if he started another game. I saw video clips of Crompton play in college and he looked good. At this point in the season with four games remaining, what bad would it be to see what Crompton can do in a regular season NFL game?

Most NFL QB's looked good when they were in college. Not all Qb's that looked good in college look good in the NFL though.

That true. Just look at Tim Couch, Heath Shuler, and Ryan Leaf. Each of those QBs were a beast in college, but less than a mouse in the NFL. But would promoting Crompton to the active roster and giving him instant playing time be a bad move at this juncture? We saw Beck, who has absolutely nothing. We've seen Grossman, who turns the ball over like it's a disease. Now, I'd like to see Jonathan Crompton give it a go. What would it hurt? Mike Shanahan should place him on the active roster and let him get some experience.

What then are you telling your starters? "We have no hope for getting better this year so we are going to plug this unproven guy in to see what he's got." The coach knows what he has in Crompton he watches him practice on a daily basis. To turn over this offense to a rookie who has only been running the scout team ofense would be setting up the entire team for failure. Top it off with our starting left tackle being suspended and I assume that you wish watch the guy get killed.

While it is understandable that the season is at a loss in terms of playoff hopes there is still hope that those who aren't suspended get more time to gell together on both offense and defense. I am not opposed to giving some young guys a chance to shine and show what they can do on the field, but the football has to go through the QB on almost every offensive snap. You could jeapordize the growth of every other player on the field if that position isn't somewhat competent. Perhaps if Crompton were already running the offense with the 1's and 2's then I would probably say "give him a shot" however, giving a practice squad QB a baptism by fire is not exactly what I would consider a sound decision.

While I do not like Grossman and I know that he isn't our future he is the best option that we have right now. I just hope that we see more of good Rex than bad Rex for the rest of the season. I am willing to speculate that even Bad Rex is better than any form of Crompton right now.

You are absolutely correct!

Look around the NFL at the young QBs who got tossed into the fire this year. Not a lot of them have done very well. Possibly the "best looking" guy who came in after the year started has been Christian Ponder and I believe his record as a starter is 1-5. [Andy Dalton was the starter on Day One in cincy so he is not in the same situation as Crompton.]

TJ Yates has been OK in Houston. But Caleb Hanie and Tyler Palko and Blaine Gabbert have AWFUL. John Beck was as good as any of those three in Beck's three bed-wetting performances this year.

"Young and unscarred" might mean a guy is just waiting to get his opportuity to shine. It might also mean that he is not good enough to play in the league.

If the Skins put Crompton on the field and IF Crompton stinks out the joint, then the "Shanaplan" would come under even greater scrutiny than it has to date since the "QB-evaluating-genius" would have put 3 guys out there in a single year and none of them would have shown himself to be anything more than "adequate as a subsitute".

With a few games left might as well let him sling it around a bit, guys like Favre and Brady sittin around pickin boogers before they got a chance. Im not saying we got anybody like that and Crompton probably sux too but to me you might as well give him a fn shot. Hell they have given every other swingin richard a shot on O & D in the other positions.

If he had "it" wouldn't they at least take him off the practice squad? You might want a guy who has "it" to be available as a backup in game.

Let's say for arguments sake you're right and Cropmton has 'it'. What exactly do you expect to see from him without the team's best lineman and top receiving threat? Spoiler alert, not a damn thing. There is literally zero benefit from playing Crompton at this point or probably ever.

Okay. That made lots of sense. But unless Mike Shanahan was planning all along for the offense to be inept, I really strongly disagree that he should not have placed Grossman and Beck atop the depth chart. The only logical explanation I can think of is Shanahan wanted to purposefully sabotage the season in order to draft within the top 5.
