Re: Eight QBs and Where The Latest Rumors Have Them Going

Dolphins have an odd QB situation.

The owner/owners wants Peyton Manning

The coach probably wants Matt Flynn

The OC probably wants Ryan Tannehill

Oh well, nice to have options.

But Locker was the top triangle and Newton was the top sphere.

Re: Eight QBs and Where The Latest Rumors Have Them Going

To my eye Luck, Griffin and Tannehill are outstanding athletes for the QB position with very similar physical traits that separate them from the other QBs in this class. (excpet for Wilson but he has a different problem)

They all possess a skill that I think is critical when I look at QBs: playmaking, the ability to turn a negative play into a positive and in this regard all 3 are above average playmakers.
All three can throw very well on the run/move (which is a critically important trait that some elite QBs possess Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Mike Vick, Ben Rothlisberger etc).
Luck, Griffin and Tannehill can can all extend plays with his legs by evading pressure and can also gain chunks of yards that extend drives with his legs.
Griffin's speed makes him the most dynamic but Tannehill is no slouch either having been a good WR and Luck is also an above average athlete too.

They all throw the ball well.
Griff has the best deep ball and Luck is the most consistent.
I think Tannehill has the best arm talent of the trio and can throw with more velocity then both Luck/Griffin.
I think they're about the same level in throwing motion.
I think Tannehill has a quicker release and a cleaner throwing motion then the other 2 but he sometimes throws from a 3/4 to almost side arm delivery which makes his throwing motion the least consistent.
(Or I think Tannehill has the best throwing motion when he's doing it right but he's not always doing it right.)

However their is a clear distinction or separation between Luck/Griffin and Tannehill.
Where Tannehill is raw Luck/Griffin are both high efficiency QBs that exhibit high level command of their respective team's passing offense.(But I would be remiss not to mention that both also have more offensive talent then Tannehill)
But imo the attributes that prevent Tannehill from being on the same tier as Luck/Griffin (i.e efficiency and command) are attainable through experience and coaching.

I tend to agree with you on most of your points. One thing that is key to success in the NFL is to be able to extend plays. They can all do it, though IMO Tannehill is not quite at the level of the other two in pocket awareness. They can all make plays with their legs, as needed.

I feel that Tannehill is not nearly as accurate with the deep ball as the other two. Also, his inconsistent technique causes him to miss more sideline passes than he should. He's deadly accurate throwing between the hash marks but that sidearm stuff has got to go. He has a very strong arm.

I see much of the same skill set in Tannehill as I see in RGIII. Like you, I think his game just needs to be refined.

My point is that I would have no problem with the Skins signing a mid-level, interim QB in FA and taking Tannehill with the 6th pick, if that's what it comes to. If there is no chance for RGIII and the Skins decide to go with Tannehill, I just don't want to see them trade down and miss out on their guy. Let Mel Kiper and others spout off all they want about the Skins "reaching" and whatever other know-it-all stuff they want to say. Just don't miss.

Oh, I agree about the deep ball accuracy Griff especially but Luck too are both better deep ball passer at this point.
But, I wonder how much of that advantage was aided by scheme?
To my eye both Griff/Luck and played in offenses that threw deep more often then A&M so I wonder how much the increased frequency of deep attempts (not to mentions WRs or TE that got w i d e open) created the disparity in deep ball accuracy?

I wish we had access to the numbers for deep passing for college QBs like we do with NFL.

*Shrugs* On some of the sideline passes like the deep comebacks I was puzzled by how often Sherman called them.
It seemed predictable after awhile and I thought the defenses began picking up on that and Tannehill made some poor decisions trying to muscle the ball in there on arm strength.

Me neither.
I think Parcell's said 'better 1 round early then 1 pick too late'.

My ideal would solutions for the QB position would be:
Peyton Manning + journeyman QB with starters potential+later round developmental rookie QB

here's my thoughts/scenarios for the draft:

o Trade with the Vikings @ 3 for Griffin

o Hope Griffin falls to 6

o Draft Tannehill @ 6

o Trade down/then up for Tannehill

o Take Foles/Weeden in the 2nd round

o Take Osweiler in the 4th knowing most likely he'll need to sit the year, which would require a FA starting QB ^^^^-------------(least favorite option Kirk Cousins)

o Take Wilson with the second 4th rounder or trade up in the 5th (love Wilson)

o complete flyer on Darron Thomas 5th-6th round

And now it's on NFL.com and Haslett is having to explain himself for it...

The source was a man of God so either he was lying about everything or he was telling the truth in excruciating detail.

We've talked about this before, and I believe the story 100%. Why? Because other insiders have been saying the same thing he reported for months now.

/begin rant

That said, the dude who had to run and tell the world what JH said is a douche bag. I don't give a rats ass if is a pastor. The mere fact he's "supposed" to be a Redskins fan yet doesn't mind getting one of the coaches in potential hot water all because he can't shut his trap? Posting it on a forum is one thing, but going all out on a highly viewed site like Hog's Haven is another thing.

Not only that, but once the media firestorm kicked in, the dude had the option to come out and say "no comment'. NO, what does this asshole do? He continues on with his 15 minutes of fame going on radio shows and talking to the press to confirm the story. Really guy? Are you that hard up to be in the press/media? Did mommy not love you enough? Does God not show you enough attention?

Jim Haslett, the pastor and the Redskins blog - DC Sports Bog - The Washington Post

The guy should be kicked in the balls. Have respect for the guy(haslett) who was nice enough with you to share the teams plans.

/end rant

I feel better.

the formula for spheres is too complex for me to wrap my head around. a squared-headed emcee couldn't parallel me with a rhombus
