re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

After getting my USCIS badge, I went to Capital City Brewing Company for lunch and had a burger and their Red Wheat and Blue seasonal. A belgian wheat with a raspberry/blueberry finish. After I ordered it, I had 2nd thoughts, thinking since it's a fruit beer that it would be on the sweet side. It wasn't sweet, and the berry flavor complimented the beer justly.

Fruit beers can be tricky. I like them as long as the fruit is squarely in the background and doesn't overpower the beer.

You betcha. A good beer and a nice transition into the rest of their line. I haven't had one in several years because I tend to run towards their IPAs, but the Shelter Pale Ale is worth trying.

And this one was in the background complimenting the wheat beer, and afterthought so to speak.

re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

Just started brewing my own beer. I'm pretty excited. Started simple because, well... I'm sure I'll screw it up.

I'm brewing a Washington apple ale, and adding a little bit of finishing hops to give it a little kick.

Went here to get all the ingredients. Maryland HomeBrew warehouse and online store for home brew and wine making, brew your own supplies. Kegging, corks, recipes, ingredient kits.

They were ridiculously helpful, so if anyone was thinking about doing it, try here. I literally just brought my recipe and they weighed everything I needed out for me.

I have been brewing for a little while now and absolutely love it. You will find with practice and patience you can brew beer at better quality than anything you can get in a store. I also use Maryland homebrew, they are really nice and helpful. Good luck with your new hobby it can get quite addictive.

I tried to brew beer with a kit I got several yrs back and after tasting the beer i threw it and the brew kit away. I'l stick to buying beer or drinking my buddies beer he brews. He makes a honey beer which is great.

Sounds like a cool show, I'll definitely be checking that out. Can't go wrong with DFH, one of my favorite brewers.

One of my good friends met the brewmaster and actually went to a DFH tasting event here in Richmond bout 6 months ago...dont know if this is the same guy. ...Anyway DFH...I cant say anything bad bout these guys. Been around, established Microbrew, but I cant say favorite to anyone of their beers. Solid, but not great...120 Ipa i had twice, its a real treat. I think 90 min is overrated a bit, but I know that beer gets alot of dap. I need to try more of their beers. Want to say ive had 4-5 types

He is in Baltimore tonight at the Alewife with 16 of their beers on tap. Kind of a meet and greet tasting. The guy from Stone was there two weeks ago with 40 of theirs on tap.

Brewing from a Mr. Beer kit kinda sucks. Very bare bones with no control. Brewing with the right equipment and ingredients make all the difference.
