Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

North Carolina Republican Congressman-elect Madison Cawthorn told "Fox & Friends" he looks forward to building a "bolder" GOP when he arrives in Washington, D.C., as the youngest member of Congress since the 1700s after winning the seat left vacant by Mark Meadows.

The 25-year-old conservative candidate -- who first catapulted to GOP stardom after speaking at the Republican National Convention in August, getting up from his wheelchair at one point on stage -- defeated incumbent U.S. Rep. Moe Davis, D-N.C., to capture the 11th Congressional District seat, according to The Associated Press, which first called the election results.

Cawthorn, who nearly died in a tragic automobile accident that left him partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair, wants to lead on health care and heal the partisan divide during his time in office.

After Cawthorn's victory, he tweeted, "Cry more, lib," before taking a swipe at progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and other far-left Democrats.

interesting attempt at healing the partisan divide.

the House is weird. Some random unqualified person like AOC or this guy can get elected in a highly partisan district (no real accomplishment) .. then immediately get national talking time to spew their hyper partisan rhetoric that then gets treated as if these no names speak for an entire party.

frustrating.

and a full fledged Q Anon is in the House now.

sad

Maybe he wants to heal the partisan divide by hardlining conservative platforms and encouraging salty libs to cry about it?

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

is there something I dont know about Nevada? Seems like people are giving it to Biden but its 588k Biden to 580k Trump .. with only 67% reporting.

Biden needs nevada, wisconsin and michigan .. otherwise he lost. Im not holding out hope for PA and assuming trump wins that.

Guessing here, but usually they drill down to counties and maybe the counties still left uncounted are mainly democratic counties. Again i am guessing.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

As long as the Senate stays republican (likely) and biden governs for all Americans - meaning finding compromises with house and senate(unlikely), this outcome could be a good step for getting past obama/trump era divisions.

I am hopeful that the 70% will find a path forward respectful of all americans. Why, politics can be a pendulum. The energy of obama pushed it far left, trump was an equal and opposite reaction by the hard right, but the mass of the political middle should dampen those swings, finding a new equilibrium.

I hope

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

strongly disagree Obama pushed it far left, i do think republicans reactions were acting as if he pushed things far left

strongly disagree to any attempt at making an apples to apples comparison of obama to trump

I agree with you on a lot but your thoughts on obama i do not agree with at all

comparing obama to trump is not trying to bridge the partisan divide but more like trying to normalize trumps language and behavior

I am talking about the energy of the movement. The middle of the electorate can be swayed by energy (positive and negative) Obama highly energized the far left. That energy passed through the electorate, energizing the hard right too. My point is that the middle doesnt have the energy to sustain those polar opposites and instead will seek to draw to a mid-point. Maybe a little more liberal particularly in social concerns but finding a balance. A good example is the majority of Americans think black lives definitely matter and a majority of Americans think police officers serve a vital purpose. The energy of the middle will draw best parts while leaving the extremists screaming with their overextended political agendas

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

I can't stay out of these threads. I hate myself lol.

You can be educated and smart. But you can be educated and a dumb fuck too. I don't think degrees = intelligence. I have a Master's degree and I'm still a big fucking caveman lol.

This election isn't about education or intelligence of voters. I don't think anyone here is dumb. There is just a fundamental difference in what we think the roles of government are. I'll never be able to wrap my head around why anyone would want big government and big taxes. Probably the same way people think I'm insane that I basically want as close to zero taxes and zero government as possible.

In regards to Obama, if you're a Democrat, you're way less likely to think Obama moved us far to the left, than if you're not democrat. All about perspective here.
