The lottery system was already in place when the Spurs picked. The Celtics had the worst record the year that Duncan came out, and the Spurs had the third worst record in the NBA.

Thank you for correcting his ignorance on the subject. The lottery has been around in the NBA for a long time. In fact, the first one was in 1985 and New York won the right to select Patrick Ewing. Granted, that old system was much worse than the one now. That said, it's STILL a horrible system for the NBA.

Didn't the Griz and Celts have the best chance to get Duncan that year?? The process is stupid but the lottery was in place well before the Duncan draft. Not to mention the Spurs lost David Robinson for most of the season that year.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

I think the current lottery system in place is more because of the rockets than anything
They got Sampson, and from what I remember without googling it they tanked that season and got Hakeem
I think it was Hakeem but it could have been Sampson they won the pick on a coin flip

Re: 2012-13 Around the NBA thread

I hope the wizards get the number one pick next year because similar to this years NFL draft, this nba draft doesn't really have a great player at the top of the draft. But next years nba draft should have Andrew wiggins who is supposed to be the best high school player since lebron James by pretty much every scout, and a couple of Kentucky freshmen that will be good as well. Just like next years NFL draft with clowney being the next great number one pick. But it will probably be the lakers since the draft is probably fixed.

Re: 2012-13 Around the NBA thread

I really hope the Pacers beat the Heat in game 7. Especially with Lebron James running around like a child when he elbows some one in the face and gets called for it. But in the end I do think Miami will win. But people were definitely wrong calling this team one of the best teams of all time. And comparing this team to the Lakers with Shaq, or Jordan's bulls.

I have actually watch this series after saying the NBA was dead to me. God I hope the Pacers win. Probably wishfully thinking as we all know NBA is WWE spelled wrong. Probably all ready determined who has won the championship.

Re: 2012-13 Around the NBA thread

I hate the Spurs. They are like the Steelers of the NBA of recent. Therefore I want the Heat, because I am very confident in the Heat beating the Spurs. I'm not confident in the Pacers beating the Spurs.

Having said that the Pacers will win tonight.

I find it very hard to hate the Spurs. They do things the right way from top to bottom. A model organization across all major sports

I agree with this man.

Also, I thought this was pretty hilarious.

2013 NBA playoffs: Gregg Popovich vs. sideline reporters - ESPN

I feel for those reporters having to cover him.....hahaha At least he has a good sense of humor about things (at times).
