Re: John Beck Era Begins

could be worse...just glad we didnt do the Vinny thing and send 2 1st round picks for Carson Palmer. Rather have Beck in there now and 2 new rookie QB on the roster next year

Great point. We are 3-2 and 1/2 a game away from 1st place in the NFC East. We have resisted the temptation of a quick fix that back fires.

Re: John Beck Era Begins

Anyone else find it amusing that both Rex and McNabb are benched the same week?

Sources -- Minnesota Vikings to start rookie Christian Ponder at QB - ESPN

Rightfully so I might add.

Would have been nice for us if McNabb wasn't benched yet

Good point. Maybe Ponder will get hurt, giving DMac more starts.

Interesting the different QB decisions The Genius Shanahan Brain Trust has made since they've been here:

1) Decides not to re-sign Campbell
2) Trades a 2nd round pick (and another pick, I forget which round) for Donovan McNabb
3) Trades for John Beck
4) Signs Rex Grossman
5) Benches Donovan McNabb (then has a disastrous presser explaining why)
6) Starts Rex Grossman the remainder of 2010
7) Trades Donovan McNabb for a side of rice pilaf
8) Praises John Beck in the offseason like he's God's gift (Kyle wanted him 10th overall in Houston, etc etc)
9) Starts Rex Grossman after an open competition in camp
10) Benches Rex Grossman 5 weeks into the season (I agree with this decision wholeheartedly)
11) Names John Beck the starter.

WHEW!! Let's hope he starts hitting on some of his quarterback decisions.

McNabb was a miss on his part. But a gamble a lot of people would have taken regardless. Everything else I believe is what was out there that we could get. As I always say, Rome wasn't built in a day. (History teacher in me) They have been upgrading other positions of need because they didn't see any FA qb's or draftees that they liked. No point in getting someone big in FA, or betting the farm in the draft just for the sake of getting a big name qb. I mean come on, who do you think these guys are? Vinny?!?

Watch Shanny draft a 1st round QB talent in the draft he likes this year and it will be different, I guarantee you.

PS: I think Beck will be better than Grossman to the effect of Beck not necessarily being a much better QB than Grossman, but that he is more of a game manager than a risk taker. He won't turn the ball over as much as Rex . Make the throws he needs to make and let the running game and defense win games. Just like what the Jets did with Sanchez going to the AFC title game. However, with our offensive line injuries, I think that line of thinking could be threatened and we take steps back unfortunately. I hope these back up guys can step up.

I think that speaks more to the difficulty it is to find that true number one then it does MS inability to find the right guy.

If you go back to each number you listed and erase hindsight you would probably agree that was the best move at the time. I mean you are even saying at #10 this is his best move right now with what he has; two weeks down the road it may look like the dumbest move ever.

I think you are missing the very 1st decision, and it was from that one that every other decision followed.

The 1st decision was that the rest of the team could not sustain a raw qb's growth. Thus, his actions all were predicated on building a fundamentally sound team where he could draft his guy, and have him have success. From that, the only questionable decision was getting rid of Campbell, but I have already said that, atleast in my opinion, that was simply moving a guy to clear out past history, so when he does bring in his guy, there are no divided loyalties.

You can change this to "Decides to bench Rex after 4 INTS and almost at the end of a very important divisional game."

All great points.1 thing you forgot to add is signing Mcnabb to a new contract after benching him,I think Shanahan is not near what he's cracked up to be,he's an average coach at best and even worse talent evaluator.
Didnt Dan Reeves mostly put together the team that Shanahan had his success with?

Rightfully so I might add.
And... JC is out as the starter (due to injury).

Spooky.
