Basketball Union Head Billy Hunter Says NBA Lockout Likely

Basketball Union Head Billy Hunter Says NBA Lockout Likely | AHN
Personally this is probably the best thing that could happen to the NBA. The current system is absurd and all this talk about people wanting to see dynasties is nothing but talk.

Consider this in 2009-2010 the NHL had 11 teams that averaged a 100% attendance or over. 3 more teams were at the 99% mark. In the NFL 8 teams averaged a 100% attendance or over with 5 additional teams at the 99% mark or above.

NBA on the other hand had only 4 teams with 100% attendance with only 2 teams above the 99% mark. No point in going to see your team play when you know that only a select few teams have a shot at winning a championship.

Forcing the NBA to adopt a hard salary cap will make the league more competitive, break up the big 3 in Miami (before they ever get a chance to compete for a championship), and hopefully if the lockout is long enough the Wizards will be all but guaranteed two straight years of high picks. Allowing them to finish a corps of young players around all-rookie John Wall.

Besides, I can easily go one year without pro basketball. Especially if it means I don't have to settle for the Lakers/Celtics every other year

But perhaps more statistically interesting is the fact that over the last 30 years, the NBA has only had eight different champions—the Lakers (9), the Bulls (6), the Celtics (4), the Spurs (4), the Pistons (3), the Rockets (2), the Heat (1) and the 76ers (1).

Compare that to the other leagues.

Counting this year, the last 30 Stanley Cup Finals, will have yielded 14 different champions.

The last 30 Super Bowls have crowed 15 different teams as Lombardi Trophy winners.

And the league that often gets mentioned the most as somehow having the least parity, Major League Baseball, has produced an amazing 19 different teams as winners over the last three decades.
