That movie was great. Like a cool combination of Evil Dead and a violent buffy

Excellent homage to an entire anthology of horror... While flipping the genre on its head.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I saw The Avengers and The Dictator in theaters yesterday. The Avengers was great, really well done (I felt like The Hulk was the star of the show), everything tied in fine with all the other previous Marvel movies that set it up, the action was fine, and they had some very nicely timed one-liners in there too.

The Dictator was decent but nothing special, and the timing of it was way off (Spoiler alert, highlight to read) because of Bin Laden's death, with him appearing in a scene at the end of the film, and he's also the main butt of a joke earlier about him staying in Cohen's guesthouse and how he stinks up the bathroom. I think the movie was made before his death and I guess they tried to make it work, but it really doesn't. Other than that it's pretty funny.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Saw The Avengers. The plot is pretty much your basic buddy movie formula: Problem occurs, buddies needed to solve problem, buddies don't get along, catalyst/epiphany, buddies get along, buddies solve problem. Just insert "Heroes" for "buddies", "Crazy supernatural crisis" for "problem" and "kick the ass out of" for "solve".

The dialogue is generally really good, the movie stays true to its genre and keeps continuity w/ other hero movies. Definitely a movie to see on the big screen rather than waiting for it to come out on video.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

People have really shot this movie down saying its lame, and Hollywood has run out of ideas, not realizing this is a BOOK. I finished the book last week and I thought the ending blew. I wasn't happy with it. But since I read the book, I have to go see the movie just to compare. Its a Tim Burton movie and its rated R (Yay violence!) So I'm hoping the effects will be superb even if everything else sucks.

To be honest I'm not expecting a lot out of the movie and I could really only see the people who read the book enjoying the movie.

Maybe that's a good thing, considering how badly Dark Shadows tanked, Burton could use a break from Johnny for at least 1 movie.
