Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I came home from the hospital in a Redskins onesie. My grandmother was a tiny woman of dignified composure, unless it was skins time. She would pace, often too worked up to watch the games, and peek around the corners unless they were winning. She was very proud of her native heritage and always thought the team paid homage to that respectfully.
My grandparents were my weekend sanctuary; they offered me reprieve from an abusive stepfather. I thought the skins played on friday as a kid, because my aunt and uncle in NOVA would tape the games and mail them to my grandparents who would pick me up on the weekends and we'd go home with pizza hut and pepsi and watch together. Not many people had VCR's in the early 80's in southeast Texas... so I grew up a skins fan in the heart of cowboy's country. I could spot my tribe in a crowd very easily in Texas. I've watched them my entire life, and to me they represented a bond with the people who gave me love and trust in a world that provided very little of either of those things outside of their home. As an adult, few things bring me nostalgic comfort like the smell of coffee in a vehicle on a cold morning, rewatching the office for the umpteenth time, and Redskins games on Sundays. On June 8th this year my grandfather passed away. This was not expected, he fell and hit his head and the brain bleeding couldn't be controlled. My grandmother wasn't allowed to be by his side for a week while he suffered in and out of consciousness in confusion and pain. She face timed him and the only coherent thing he could say was "help me". She was finally allowed to see him when they transferred him to hospice and he was too medicated to be present for the final day of his life, which he did spend surrounded by family. I can't imagine his last week on earth. It isn't the dignified end he deserved. A month after my grandmother lost her husband, she lost her other nostalgic comfort. I can tell you this has solidified me in the anti-PC camp for the remainder of my days. I no longer care about offending others' sensibilities and sensitivities.

U summed up better what K Sheehan was trying to say about a week ago on the radio show. That the emotional bond with the team, regardless of recent history, is still extremely strong with many. Football passion is only comparable to the soccer club passion folks have in Europe and South America. People can say what they want, but you don’t have to and shouldn’t accept it, ever. The mob is cowardly, it’s always been viewed that way throughout history...don’t ever bend to it one second.

In memory of our REDSKINS
Lol real warm fuzzy love fest goin on here. Boogeymen mobs trying to get you. Fuck people’s feelings because of a football teams name. Fuckin hilarious.
The mob is cowardly. Has been through history. Dont bend to it. Stay strong. LOL. Put the bong down Chico you have clearly had enough. BTW sorry about your grandfather EE21 and your poor grandmother who couldn’t be there. That is super sad. Im truly sorry. That aside Im not sure how ignoring other people’s feelings will help. |

Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Our name was changed because 90% of Native Americans' feelings were ignored.
That crowd proclaimed "our feelings are more important than yours...and more important than facts too, and f@#% your history." I understand, and share his frustration. Laws are being passed and votes are being cast based on feelings. People jump to conclusions and burn down stuff before finding facts. That's our society.

In memory of our REDSKINS

So if you had a brother or son or daughter that decided they wanted to dress in an unconventional way you would have no problem with people calling them a bitch? He doesn’t dress like that for attention or to get called a bitch he does it because thats how he likes to dress. Why the fuck does it bother you man? They aren’t infringing on your rights for Christ sake. My God the hate on this page is outrageous. You know what would be great? If one of you guys called that guy a bitch and he knocked you the fuck out. Id pay to see that. |
