Re: Practice Squad
True, but he was undrafted and went to 2 different teams before he became known to all fans.

Re: Practice Squad
It sure helped Welker to have Brady throwing the ball to him.

Re: Practice Squad
Yep, and thats why Nick Williams has RG3. Also to note, Welker had Drew Brees/Rivers to show his potential (which he didn't have until later in his career)..much like Nick Williams will..

Re: Practice Squad
I'd love to see Nick Williams enjoy the kind of career Welker has. And I've watched Williams for a few years and am definitely a fan. But I think it's an unfair expectation at this point. He's a "Wes Welker" like player. But I don't expect Welker like results

Re: Practice Squad
Are the skins paying players like Minnifield extra (like Compton last year) to prevent him from being poached easily by other teams?

Re: Practice Squad
Dawson was a real disappointment. Didn't show much. Maybe he'll develop but someone with that speed should at least flash some.

Re: Practice Squad
^^ Yup as to the need to flash given his speed. On the other hand, I wouldn't classify an undrafted rookied free agent "a real disappointment" for failing to show he is NFL quality.
Given the amount of coverage, investigation and analysis leading up to drafts, it seems to me that the expectation for the overwhelming majority of rookie UFA's is that they aren't NFL quality - regardless of their measureables skills. On the other hand, rookie UFA's that excel, flash or show themselves deserving of being on an NFL level are an unexpected boon. I wonder what the ration for RUFA's making a PS or roster is. I would suppose it is much lower now than it was probably 15 years ago. (On the other hand, when 28 teams were holding 12 round drafts, a RUFA making the team was really something special - I'm looking at you Joe Jacoby).

Re: Practice Squad
For the first time I could see multiple guys on this squad being capable of contributing to the team if needed. Love this PS roster.

No one else knew who he was then. Back to our PS...I don't recall ever seeing so much potential in a PS before. Thrilled with who made it. We had more competition in camp this year than I can ever remember. We had to cut some quality players.

Umm..
Dawson is returning kicks for the Bucs right now.. Looks a lot better than anything we have to offer. Pity.
