Re: Jansen Released!

For what it's worth, the Cap Sheets include $2.0 million dollars worth of roster bonuses to Jansen that he will not earn. However media reports say that the Skins only owed Jansen $1 million in roster bonus. The $6.0 million in dead cap is not in dispute.

So the difference is a $2.7 million net cap hit if the Cap Sheets are correct, but it's $3.7 million of a hit if the media reports are correct.

I hope we have someone that will fill the loss in the run game

It's not a loss. He wasn't going to play anyways. It's not like we rottate in our best run blocking Linemen on running downs.

Re: Jansen Released!

Man, didn't really see that coming, I figured next year but with their talks of versatility/backup C or guard he'd still be here this year, especially with the cap hit. Jon's a tough guy, not as consistent anymore but still tough and sounded like he had put some effort into this offseason and was determined to win the spot; said he'd be playing no matter what team it was for.

I'm kind of neutral on the move right now.

Re: Jansen Released!

Based on this article; Zorn was the one who wanted the FO to release Jansen..

I guess you assume it's Zorn because what owner is going to be out there right before training camp cutting players. Even Ceratto wouldn't have his mind on that at the moment, unless it was an afterthought and the cap guys said it'd make sense.

Re: Jansen Released!

I am really gonna miss him as a Redskin but his play has declined to a point where I think he might be done with football altogether. I wish him the best in whatever he does next.

One a brighter point this means that we are confident in the other guys we have. It is one more roster spot for a lineman. I think Devin Clark or Batiste must be showing something.

I sure hope so but I don't think we're going to know about any of these guys until the pads come on. But there is always Heyer.

Re: Jansen Released!

As much as I respect Jansen as a person who gives his all, this is a great move by the skins. if Jansen had stayed, he would have taken up a roster spot and been someone we never ever wanted to see step on the field - at any position.

Cutting Jansen may create a cap hit, but its one we can afford and it means we can keep an extra young guy on the roster. Our PS squad was raided for good O-linemen last year because we had old declining guys like Jansen wasting a roster spot. More than anything, i'm glad because this means that we're able to keep Edwin Williams on the active roster, so he can hopefully replace Rabach in a year or two. With Jansen on the roster, theres a good chance he would have been put on the PS and signed to someones active roster fairly quickly.

Re: Jansen Released!

Sorry to see a true Redskin go but this doesn't surprise me. He simply can't pass protect anymore and watching DE's run around JJ and clobber JC isn't a good thing. Everyone's day comes and today was JJ's. I hope he gets into broadcasting.

Re: Jansen Released!

I would like to see him on the Redskins Post Game Live. Having him and B Mitch on there would be good. People have been saying that he need to go for awhile but others were saying that his cap hit would be too big.
Most of us agree that he was a good player and a repectable man who's time has come. Strahan said that Jansen was the toughest guy he ever had to face. I'll miss him but not at the expense of the team.

Re: Jansen Released!

It didn't surprise me that he was cut, but that he was cut so soon now that's what surprised me...but that was probably because of the June 1 deadline and the respect they have for him to possibly catch on with another team...sounds like heyer bridges or Williams will be starting RT this year looks good, plus they're all younger than Jansen anyway

Re: Jansen Released!

Wow.

Guess I can't say I'm surprised, except maybe for the timing.

Anyways there's been discrepencies with my Jansen numbers with some other sites but JLC seems to confirm my deadcap number of $6.188M which is the only number that matters now.

Though I am a Jansen fan and will miss him, I am very happy about this move. Was time and eating the deadcap hit now when we have the cap room makes a lot of sense.

There is no real June 1 deadline this year.
