Didnt the Saints just get their salary cap back in order from Brees contract? That is a ton of cap space for a receiver

Two positions I would not pay big $ to. 1. Wr 2. RB. Thomas has been a stud but you can have him for 20 mil a year.

Agreed about the RB. Draft a second or third-round RB and keep him until his contract runs out. Then repeat the procedure.

WR is a different story. We signed DeSean Jackson after he left Philly and he instantly extended the field for us and also immediately became an annual 1,000 yd WR. Then we let him go and now he is back at Philly ready to torment us again. The skins have been notoriously BAD at drafting WR in the Snyder era. Maybe Trey Quinn and other recent draft picks will change that trend but getting one premium FA WR on the team will help us. Not sure if Ricards is the answer now - he's had a quiet training camp.... I wonder if Cam Sims will take his place.

WR is a HUGE need in todays NFL.. You have to pay those guys what they deserve. Look at our roster, or the Giants now, teams that are weak at WR in todays league are in big trouble.

I totally disagree. Wr's can be found in the mid and later rounds and still be paid modest money. Paying a wr 20 million is absurd. They only touch the ball a few times a game. A great QB makes average wr's look good.

How many of those sitting around though? How did Kirk look without DJAX and PG? Very avg. How did Case look last yr without Diggs and Theilen.

Yes SOME QB's make WR's look great but to say that any avg WR can make a difference is not the case anymore. That was back in the 80s and 90s. The game is not the same . The best athletes are WR's now

What I'm saying is paying a wr 20 million a year is just ridiculous. I didn't say you can win with scrubs or with guys that can't get open.

Having an elite QB correlates to having a consistent, winning team. He can't carry the team by himself, but without real talent at that position generally, you can't maintain an above-average or better franchise.

Yeah paying any old WR 20 million is just flat out insane but when you have someone like Michael Thomas who catches 85% of the balls thrown his way, and is an elite number 1 at that age, that is what the market dictates. Doesn't mean you go out there and pay Robert Woods that because he had 1200 yards because he isn't on Michael Thomas level. I am still mad we didn't take him over Josh Doctson but I have to learn to live with that.

Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition

Other than NE, Name me a team with bottom tier WRs and they are good on offense?

Here's a list of teams with no true #1 WR.

Miami = sucks
Washington = bad pass game (may change if Terry and Harmon are legit)
Ravens = no pass game
Raiders without Cooper last yr = sucked
Dallas with Cooper = WAYYY Better

List could go on but there is no doubt that pass catchers are very valuable and Mike Thomas got what the market is for great WRs

Correct, this notion that only QBs are worth the big money contracts is insane, yeah it is "the most important position in sports" but if you aren't one of the elite QBs and they pay you all that money they are basically handicapping themselves

Exactly. Just like the Redskins did by signing a very average QB like Alex Smith with a big, fat and long contract. BA was trying to get a quick fix for the Cousins fiasco. You only pay the big bucks for an elite QB.

Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition

Per ESPN, Dallas has offered Dak,Zeke and Cooper "Top 5" level of pay per each position, Zeke has rumored to decline that offer. It appears he could really pull off a Leveon Bell here but we'll see who budges first.

BTW paying those guys that kind of money would most likely mean they lose Byron Jones and Jaylon Smith which is perfectly fine for me
