This is a smart move by the team. It gives them a solid back up, and someone who can start if sh*t goes down.

For the 2nd pick in the fifth round I would have expected another pick to come back the other way... if he sees any significant time then Haskins is injured or incapable, in which case I would rather tank for Trevor then win 3 or 4 games because of a scrappy backup, if it was for a sixth or future mid fifth then I wouldn't have a problem... but seems a lot for a guy who will only see the field if things turn to crap....... interested to know where Alex Smith stands at this point, pun not intended

Yeah, thinking about it, seems a high 5th perhaps would be too much .. a 6th we would be fine with. Should have gotten a 7th in return perhaps.

^^ link Car immediately signs XFL qb .. who looked good.

Perhaps we could have waited for Allen to be released .... but then he probably would have signed somewhere else .. maybe.

I agree. Shows we are not drafting Tua

It's a solid move if you believe he can compete for the job.. If you were signing just a backup that could have happened with a trade. I think Turner really liked the guy and wanted him to compete for the job.

Pricey...but someone Turner and Ron trust.

He's limited enough that this will clear the way for Haskins to start.

Id rather have this than Cam

This dude started like 14 games last yr.. He's not just coming in to be the for sure backup.. I don't see why anyone would assume Haskins has the QB1 spot locked. This to me proves that not to be true.

I don’t see this a threat unlike Cam or Jameis...those were true threats.

This is the right competition and I think pushes Haskins to prepare.

I don’t view Allen as a starter over Haskins potential.

We have to have a backup QB. Not worried about the competition. But the pick is too high especially considering we already don't have a 2nd. I just don't get it. We could sign a veteran FA, a bunch of UDFA guys to compete for the backup spot or use a 7th rounder.

We now don't have selections in 3 rounds of the draft. Easily the worst move of the offseason.

OR...they're gonna draft Tua and let him sit behind Allen next season to "get healthy" and trade Haskins?

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen

This trade is absolute dogshit. We have limited picks and he only signed a 1 year deal. I guess we're just organically changing the team name. Washington Carolinas (can't have 2 Panthers).

Backup QBs are taken ALL THE TIME in rounds 5-7. Nothing wrong with this...

When you draft a backup QB in rounds 5-7, you have that player on a cheap rookie contract for 4 years. This is the last year of Allen's rookie deal. Next year he either walks or we have to pay him decent backup money.

we have a had a HIGH fifth round pick - this was way too much for Allen. Should have been one of the 7ths.

He wasn't even drafted. He just signed a 1 year deal after the season.
