Re: I Was impressed!!!
You are correct about Shuler not being in Campbell's class - my point, and I s'pose I should have clarified it, was that Shuler - like Campbell - was billed as the Redskins' "Savior", so to speak; both first rounders, and both disappointments. If you're happy with JC's output after the past four freaking years, then by setting your sights low, you'll not be disappointed come the end of this season.
Quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing the same flimsy excuse about his performances - too many changes in offensive coordinators/offensive schemes and philosophies - being regurgitated year after year by myopic Campbell fans. Flacco and Ryan changed coordinators/systems - look how THEY produced their first year. How many more lackluster seasons by this guy will it take for management to make the necessary adjustments to the roster? Shuler fit well in Tennessee's scheme, as Campbell did at Auburn - but alas, sometimes, college heroes are destined to become NFL zeroes. And while JC's not quite a zero, he's probably more attuned to assuming the role of backup. Jusmytoosenzwurth - for what THAT'S worth..... |

Yes, I do remember Heath Shuler, and I don't know why you even bringing him up. I'm not saying taht JC is going to throw for 400 yds every single game and take us undefeated all season. But I think he's a solid QB that has gotten some shitty fortunes for the past couple of seasons. He's the best option at QB, and if the offensive line protects him we will see him make plays like he did when we went 6-2 last season. Our team is still a run-first team with a very good defense. We don't need Campbell to put the team on his back every single time, we just need him to be a good QB and this is the last season he has to prove this. If he doesn't, he's gone and the team can start from scratch. Until them, you'll see me defending him from the JC-hating lunatics, and praising him when he does well (which I hope happens a lot this season).

Like you and so many others on this forum, I merely express my opinions, which can be considered and agreed with, disagreed with, discounted, or ignored. UNLIKE you and so many others on this forum, I resort neither to name-calling (see your comment in [2nd] bold above) nor ridicule (see another member's reaction to my JC/Shuler comparison on this thread dated 8-31), in response to another forum member's posts, regardless of how deeply the content of that post conflicts with my view. It seems to me that such practices are best left to the class clowns and schoolyard bullies of this world. That's not to say, however, that I won't directly respond, in a manner I deem appropriate, to those comments I find to be particularly offensive. With respect to your remark about not knowing why I brought up Shuler, you may have overlooked my response - appearing four posts behind your current post directed towards me - to another member's inquiry, in which I attempted to clarify my previous comparison of the two QBs. Perhaps if you (and others similarly incensed) were to go back and read it, you might just gain a better perspective of my position. I agree with you on a number of points that you brought up, however, the bottom line is, while you optimistically refer to the 6-2 record last season, the pessimist in me points to the 2-6 record. And as QB, JC assumes the lion's share of responsibility - for BOTH records, regardless of mitigating factors. AGAIN, my assessment (which I recognize, in the grand scheme of things, is not worth a plugged nickle) of his overall ability to lead the team is not limited to the last half of last season and the first two games of this pre-season. I sincerely wish to see a winning season culminating with playoff appearances(s). I just don't think JC has 16 games of solid performance in him to sustain that effort. However, I'll certainly join in with you in heaping praise upon him as circumstances dictate. Hopefully, that will occur frequently. |

Re: I Was impressed!!!
I absolutely root for him as well as the entire team. But, to beat this dead horse to an absolute pulp, IMHO, I'm inclined to give someone another chance. He's made too many poor choices on the field based on his tenure. But most importantly, I just don't think he has the capacity to be the leader this team needs right now. The point may be moot, however, as I believe this is the final year of his contract. Like others have observed, if he doesn't have a Pro Bowl year, I think he's toast. |

I can't believe you could even think about a ridiculous comparison like this, let alone actually post it. Wow.

Oh, dear heavenly days, Buster. Can I ever hope to regain your confidence, or am I doomed to forever bear the awesome burden of your derision??

Re: I Was impressed!!!
For sure. Simms made a good point - if you call plays that let Jason take chances and show his ability, he won't hesitate to sling it. I love what I saw from Jason tonight.

Re: I Was impressed!!!
Just like many posters said, I'm impressed as well.. I think JC did well enough to make people who bash JC to eat their words..
There are few things I'm hoping Zorn will evaluate more next last game.. I'm really interested to see more of what Alridge can do, he seems pretty fast.. If I had to choose, I would go ahead and pick Alridge.. I can see him as FAST runner, he reads well too (based on limited actions I saw).. If I was Zorn, I would rest Portis and Betts; let Mason, Alridge and Dorsey run it out and see who comes up in the top.. Mason played pretty well too.. I'm sort of liking the idea of Thomas returning kicks, he seems to have better burst than he had last year.. But I want to see how does Alridge do in kick returns, and punt returns as well.. Our receivers played pretty good; Moss had a nice catch! It's amazing how he could do it with his short size.. He continues to be #1 for us.. However, Moss did drop a ball that easily could be a 1st down.. Kelly and Thomas took advantage of their opportunities.. Mitchell continues to be back-up QB's best friend, enough said.. Mitchell did block well during running plays.. I think he virtually locked his spot as #5.. As for defense, it looks like Brady and Moss duo is back after all.. Nobody (maybe except for Giants?) could stop them, so we should not have expect our defense to do so, I guess... Patriots' o-line men played pretty well, they handled our d-line men good... Smoot surprised me tonight, he did nice.. I'm hoping this was not just a good game for him.. .....Could someone please explain me why our CBs keep giving this lofty space between them and WRs?!?! |

Re: I Was impressed!!!
That's a good can of worms. JC was confident, in control, making good decisions, getting the ball out quickly, avoiding the rush well...that was a big-time qb wearing #17 tonight.

But Matty,I gotta call you out on that statement,I think you had been drinking and giddy from JC playing so well ![]() If your going to say" Dude showed me tonight that he can flat out play"after a preseason game, how would that be different than me or someone else saying"after his first 2 preseason games,"Dude showed me he aint worth a crap"? jason had a good game and redskin nation is thankful and feeling a lot better now, keep it up Jason. I also loved zorns playcalling,It was like Jason said, that dink and dunk stuff is for the birds. Man I hope D Hall picks it up when season starts, that was just pathetic, pass rush is still not looking that great to me. I too would like to see more of Aldridge, guys a burner.I know Portis likes to save it for the reg season so Im not that concerned, but he looks terrible

The door swings both ways. Saying Jason can "flat out play" based on 1 half of a preseason game is on par with saying he isn't capable of leading the Skins based on his poor play in his first two appearances this year. Can't really dismiss his poor play as "just the preseason," and then turn around and praise him for good play in that same preseason. Whether or not the outcome of the game matters, his first two games this year worried and frustrated me, and last night's game was a nice change. He played well.
