MB is Gibbs guy and this tells me that Gibbs has not completely given up on MB as the starter.

Wouldn't a restructured deal imply that he has moved on to a backup role?

Sort of. Its obvious that MB is not the starter now but I dont think Gibbs is completely sold on JC and I know for certain that Gibbs loves MB so by doing this deal it suggestes to me that Gibbs still thinks MB can play in the NFL and if given the opportunity will plug MB back in as the starter.

I don't this is the case. Why would Gibbs give up an extra #1 pick if he wasn't sold on JC?

The redskins give away draft picks like Xmas presents. They are meaningless, the skins dont care about them.

Being high on a player to draft is one thing, being sold on his ability to be a starting nfl QB is something altogether different.

I'm pretty sure that Gibbs has come to his senses and realized that Mark can't get it done as the starter. Also, I'm really glad we'll never have to cross the bridge of "who should be our backup, now?" I wasn't too excited about the names I brought up, so I'm glad Bledsoe, Harrington, Plummer, Warner (I know he's supposed to retire), etc can go elsewhere.

I think if not for personal connection, he would be cut.
I'd ideally like to see MB stay as a backup, but let's be real, who will pay him more than vet min. coming off shoulder surgery? Maybe he'd have a couple takers, but no more than that.
I hope his salary doesn't impact our ability to restructure w/Springs who is much more valuable to the team.

I was really hoping he'd go (or be let go) so that he wouldn't have to continue to put up with mindless crap from the fans. He could literally pay Dockery's, Springs, Clements', and Fletcher's contracts, discover a cure for cancer, bring peace to the Middle East, and joy to Mudville...and people would still complain about him.

Or, he could take a team with a great wideout, a solid TE, Clinton Portis and a top ten offensive line, complete 11-25 passes, 65 yards, 0 tds, 0 ints, throw the ball out of bounds on third down and lose 19-3 -- and some people will wonder why fans are so hard on him; so much so in fact, that they're worried his feelings might be hurt and maybe he should just leave town.

Well, as we've discussed many times over you can't pin everything on him, I think that's the basic point here. The year before he did help guide the team to the playoffs. Last year was a disaster across the board.

I'm pretty sure this nor a situation similar to this ever happened.

Of course you are absolutely right. And that's because he did NOT put the "Bop" in the Bop-she-bop... Nor did he find the Lindberg baby...

Re: Brunell and Redskins Reportedly Close to Restructured Deal

Personal connection has something to do with it, I'm sure. The fact that he's familiar with our receivers and the playbook probably played bigger part in deciding to keep him.

Re: Brunell and Redskins Reportedly Close to Restructured Deal

Considering his age and his coming off an injury there was little to no chance of him drawing much interest from other teams. As long as Campbell stays healthy and performs, we'll have nothing to worry about.

I think every team says if our starter stays healthy and performs we should be fine. Unfortunately QBs dont stay healthey and the Eagles showed how a quality backup can really make a difference.

IMO, if JC does not stay healthy or does not perform, and Gibbs has to put MB in as the starter this team is in big trouble. I was hoping the skins would sign a quality backup, not an old geezer thats out of gas.
