Hey, McFly, you bojo! Those boards don't work on water! Unless you've got power!

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

So I finally did some catching-up with movies this weekend. I saw There Will Be Blood on Saturday and Into the Wild on Sunday.

There Will Be Blood was solid, but I didn't like it as much as I expected to.

Into The Wild, however, was outstanding. The way it builds and then the denouement (you like that itvnetop?!) is amazing. The movie was heartwarming, heartbreaking, uplifting and frightening all at the same time. This is one of those movies that stick in your mind for a long time after the movie. Definitely recommend it.

Very good movie. For me, it was an uneasy good movie, if that makes sense. It was one of those movies that I kept thinking about after it was over. Great acting/directing/score/scenery.

Good way to put it.

It's definitely one of those movies that sticks with you for a while after.

Nice SS... looks like someone's been holding back their film geekdom from us!

I think Sean Penn definitely has found his calling as a director. Into the Wild was a fine film, for sure. I did get a bit upset at the guy's lack of preparation for certain aspects of his new surroundings... but that's what makes the story so powerful- the range of emotions, as you said.

I just saw Black Snake Moan yesterday, I thought it was another good movie. Solid acting all around and nice storyline as well. Justin Timberlake did a pretty good job acting in it as well, when I saw his name was in the storyline I wasn't expecting much but he did a nice job all around.

I plan on seeing it tomorrow night. I have heard some pretty mixed reviews (too much CGI for one) but I sort of feel obliged to see it. I mean I saw all the other ones. Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually the first movie I remember seeing in a theater.

Yes too much CGI for sure, and overall I just not impressed. This comes from a big Indiana Jones fan.

I agree that there was way too much CGI and that really annoyed me. Also, I didn't think that they developed the new characters enough.
It seemed to me like they were trying to hard to make it really action packed and that it took away from the actual story.
I feel like big Indy fans ought to see it just because but it was a bit disappointing.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I sense it will be similar to Star Wars. Episodes 4-6 (Star Wars, Empire, Jedi) were fun action movies with good storylines. And everyone thought with improved special effects that Episodes 1-3 would be even better.

But they sacrificed character development for cool effects and it was like adding technicolor to a classic black and white show. It just didn't seem right.

See the thing is it wasn't just CGI, I think the story wasn't that great and it just wasn't executed right. Lucas really fucked up on this one, IMO.
