But there are many examples the other way. Burrow, Herbert and Stroud played right away and played well. 3 QB from the 2012 draft did as well, we can go all the way back to Big Ben and even Marino to find other examples.

With the way the league is now teams don't get a full 5 years before they have to sign their franchise QB to a monster deal. Teams do not want to waste 2 of those seasons they will have under a rookie contract anymore, they want their rookie QB on the field as soon as possible.

Let’s be honest Mahomes could have started right away and been fine.

The days of having a rookie sit are long gone.

Those guys sat because of who was in front of them not because they weren’t ready.

JP Finlay seems to think JD5 is now a lock

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

All the dots seem to be connecting that way.

Not necessarily, as Keim commented, they wanted Darnold first and he is far more similar to Maye. Mariota was who was available and had worked with Brian Johnson in Philly. Keim seems sure they have not made a decision and are going through the process which will involve pro days and private visits before coming to a conclusion

His analysis is off as it was reported the Skins wanted Darnold before settling on Mariota. If they had gotten Darnold then Finlay would be saying Maye was a lock.

If Maye is the #2 pick then keeping Sam makes a world of sense, due to recentcy bias Sam will be worth more in trade 12 months from now and it costs nothing to keep him for that long. Maybe he will look good in mop up duty during the season.

I agree with all of this except the part about Maye. Maye was his backup in 2021 and Howell was an absolute stud. I feel like there would be an element of embarrassment that the student becomes the master.

Sam Howell fans are on the struggle bus today.
Mac Jones was traded for a 6th.
Maybe if we expand the draft to 12 rounds like the old days we can get a pick for Howell.
June 1st cut!

I just see a lot of upside based on his best games. Obviously he has bad tape. He was about as poorly coached as you can get. But to me he still has value at the most valuable position.

Remember, a lot of you gave up on Kirk based off his turnovers his first few years. There were a lot of rough patches. Well, be ready for that all over again w/ drafting a rookie.

Howell was far more successful than Jones.

I like the Marriota signing.
It's safe to say that Williams or Daniels will be our starter this season.
If anything happens, Marriota can step in and run the same offense.
