Re: 2012 redskins
Rather draft Jones, who will be a star in my eyes.

Re: 2012 redskins
Are we officially eliminated from the playoffs yet? If so could they cut Beck and add to the active roster Crompton? might be nice to see how he performs in an actual game to determine if he's worth keeping or cutting also.
My ideal scenario... the team drafts a QB round 1 and maybe another young one in a later round. Keep Grossman as a back up. Option 2 would be to pick up another QB in FA and draft a QB either 1st or 2nd round. Keep Grossman as a backup. |

Re: 2012 redskins
I was doing some research on the FA right tackles, and I'm thinking that the only solution is going to be internal promotion. The top names are left tackles like Max Starks and Demetrius Bell, and those guys will command the big bucks. The top right tackles are Arizona's Brandon Keith, Oakland's Khalif Barnes, and Kareem McKenzie from the Giants. I am not sure that with Willie Smith might not be the best option.
Plus the internal promotion is nice because it doesn't force you to make a decision on Jammal Brown during the offseason. Brown's probably cooked as an NFL tackle, but if you are looking at Willie Smith or Sean Locklear on the right side next year, you can give Jammal Brown the preseason to evaluate him. If you're going to make a play for Max Starks or draft an OT in the first round, then Brown has to go in the middle of the offseason, and there is plenty of dead money associated with that.

Re: 2012 redskins
Gotta have Kory Lichtenstieger on it for it to be brilliant.
Grubbs is a far more established guard being a legit first rounder and all, but I'm not sure he actually improves our team over the guy who has made 19 starts for us in the last two years. I'd go something pretty close to that. For as inept as our offense has been this year, we have shockingly few holes to obviously upgrade. We're missing a RT, we're a receiver short of a top passing game, and the quarterback. But that's 8 or 9 players on the offense who should be back next year. Which means that most of the work is already done. It would seem like the biggest decisions of the offseason are going to be on the defensive side of the ball, even if the top two draft picks are going to be offensive players.

Re: 2012 redskins
Still, it would be a surprise to me if his recovery was slow enough so that Mo Hurt would beat him out for the starting LG spot next season.

Re: 2012 redskins
I would actually go as far as saying that unless we take our RT of the future high in the draft, we're pretty much heading into 2012 with the same offensive line group as in 2011. Maybe it makes some sense to take a center in the fourth round to compete for Erik Cook's roster spot, but the Williams, Lichtensteiger, Montgomery, Chester front four is actually a pretty strong group that looks a lot worse than it is because of injury and also because the RT has been dreadful ever since the team got rid of Jon Jansen.

Re: 2012 redskins
He has really good feet. But he's a 25 year old rookie that didn't get drafted, and the learning curve at the level is impossibly steep.
It's debatable whether or not Willie Smith is a good OT prospect, and remember that the last good OT prospect we had that was undrafted was Stephon Heyer. What would be tough to argue was that even if Willie Smith was a great raw talent, the window of opportunity for him to prove he belongs at this level is razor thin and frankly may already be 25% over. So the odds are stacked against Willie Smith, to the point where I feel that calling him the RT of the future is a bit of hyperbole. That doesn't mean he can't beat those odds, of course.

Only reason I put Ben Grubbs is because I dont know how Lich will return from his torn acl.
