Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

American Sniper is meh...I dont know, bradley cooper is just not a dramatic actor. sometimes it look like he was trying to hold in a laugh while trying to be serious.

Once I realized the film plot device was going to be a rival most likely fictional sniper called mustafa, i thought hey this could help the movie..but it just made it more predictable.

an ok movie.

plus i was surrouded in the theatre by a bunch of cigerrette smelling tea partiers...ugh

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

yeah, sniper isn't bad, but it's not really much different than the other 40 iraq movies. I'd recommend zero dark thirty or generation kill (series) instead.

interstellar was decent, though definitely not a must see.

The drop with gandolfini and Tom hardy...wow. Hardy outshines gandolfini in his last on screen performance but still damn impressive. Reminded me a bit of gone girl on character development and which way the story gets u leaning before the twist. Great movie

Whiplash...brillant. JK Simmons was cast in a perfect role.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I feel like outside of indie movies, there are no good major films in theaters right now. I wanted to go to the movies so bad last weekend but I've heard so-so reviews about The Lazarus Effect, I heard Hot Tub Time Machine 2 was a waste and I just could not drag myself to see that POS Will Smith movie.

Is there going to be any blockbusters coming out soon?

or it'll be leaked 3 months early and be seen as a CGI crapfest. I'm hoping not, but so far it's all just random CGI and harrison ford looking like he's 80. either way, expectations are going to be so high that it'll be hard to lvie up to.

Well, at least it's J.J. Abrams and not George Lucas behind the camera.

Abrams did a good job when he rebooted Star Trek, I think he'll be fine with Star Wars.

I've read the Abrams has dialed down the CGI (for example the little droid is actually a prop, not CGI. But then again, I don't the whole hate for CGI; we have technology, it is much better now than let's say early 2000s.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

there's no hate for cgi here. look at winter soldier, best cgi/effects in a movie, maybe ever, because it blended in. unlike say transformers, where they threw particle effects into the camera every 15 seconds to let you know about how much they paid for their renderfarm. effects should support the story, not be the story.

abrams did well with trek (Except for the lens flares in every frame of every scene).
