I would not pay a CB 15 mil/yr which is exactly the type of money he's wanting in a extension. Add that to the fact he just tore a ACL and you can forget it.

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
Supposedly this topic has been on discussed to great length for the last 2 days on The Sports Fix with Kevin Sheehan and Thom Loverro. They talked to Charley Casserly today about it. Casserly seemed to think Cousins would fetch at least a 2nd round pick (perhaps two 2nd rounders if a team was desperate enough). But Casserly also said backups like this are usually liked or disliked based on college tape, as opposed to preseason or backup work in their first year(s).
While I wouldn't just give away Cousins, the one thing to think about is no first round picks over the next 2 years plus no 2nd rounder next year. The Skins will be in another big deficit with the salary cap. If a team (Kansas City perhaps? The Jets if they figure out how to get rid of Sanchez?) decides that Cousins is worth two 2nd rounders, it might be too rich not to take advantage of. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to have a capable backup that we might have with Cousins (one game does a great backup not make), but if a team is willing to throw the farm out there for him, I'm not sure the Skins can afford to turn the deal down. Plus with a guy like Matt Scott from Arizona that could be available in the 4th round, you might be able to needs with the 2nd rounders and have someone who Rex Grossman can coach up the would-be backup.

Not sure I would want to trade him for a guy with two season ending surgeries in the last three years. Two acls? I believe.

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
Cousins has shown why he was projected to be a 2nd round pick. I think the Redskins may be able to get a great deal for him. If Philly can get a 1st rounder for a bum like Kevin Kolb, then the Redskins can get a nice draft pick for Cousins.

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
This team has way too many needs to hang onto 2 young starting QBs. I wouldn not hesitate to ship Cousins to the Jets for Revis and a 2nd rounder. We need all of the youth on defense we can get, especially a stud middle linebacker to take over for fletcher. Safety and cornerback is a bigger need at this point. If we don't make the playoffs, it will be due to our defense this year which needs serious attention and considering the lost cap money we won't be able to do much in free agency so draft picks are golden.

Having a good backup isn't a luxury, it's practically a requirement these days. Didn't we just see the value of that last week?
I wouldn't consider moving Cousins until he's coming up on his last year here under contract. Until then, let's enjoy having a quality backup QB. |

For some reason, i had thought that under the new CBA, 4th-7th round picks signed 3 year contracts, but the standard is 4 years for all drafted players. So we can keep Cousins for the next 2 seasons and trade him before the 2015 season. I would recommend drafting another QB in 2014 to be third string to learn from RGIII/cousins before potentially stepping into the primary backup role in 2015. Of course, the 2013 offseason is somewhat unique. There are no really good QBs in the draft and, like always, lots of NFL teams needing a quarterback. Its possible a team with a GM/coach on the hotseat and desperate for a QB would offer a 1st rounder. It would be very foolish of them to do so for Cousins, but it would be hard to turn down a first.

No trade unless the offer is insane - I mean, replacement of all we lost for Griffin insane.
He is just too valuable in his current role given Griffin's fearlessness and the state of our offensive line.

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
Some people wonder why the Skins were so bad for so long. Often the answer wasn't the high priced players that were brought in, but more so because the value of quality backups was ignored. A fan's eye view sees the top 22, maybe one or two special teamers or value added players and wants to go out and get the best at each position. That is what Danny, and VC did. A fan's eye view sees quality backups and thinks "Trade for a starter or high pick", a winning team's view sees backups as potential starters first (next man up) and trade value only at the backside of his contract (or when an "amazing" offer is thrown up).
From the looks of it, we can go 2-3 years with a very dynamic duo at qb, and use 2-7th rounds picks to fill depth and some starting positions. |

I guess what i'm getting to with all that rambling is this - not having a 1st round pick frees up our scouting department to spend their time evaulating the non-marquee players to look for "hidden gems." Not having the first round pick will force them pay closer attention to how they grade these players in relation to eachother, making it less like that we wiff on some guys and get a bust. I think we'll really get some really good players out of the 2013 draft. I just wish we didnt have that damn cap penalty so we could do more in free agency.

Yeah, I mean from 1970-1990 we had 3 first round draft picks total...and we didn't do too bad
