I don't know where or how the 49ers were thrown into the mix for PM but I'm hoping to put it to rest unless someone else has something different.

Although there appears to be nothing imminent between the 49ers and soon-to-be free agent quarterback Alex Smith, the 49ers’ front office says that bringing back Smith is the focus of the franchise — and that signing Peyton Manning hasn’t even been discussed.

“We haven’t had Peyton in here nor are we even talking about those things internally right now,” 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke said on KNBR, via the Sacramento Bee. “Is he going to play? I don’t know. That’s for the doctors to make the decision on and for him himself.”

But all indications are that, despite what Jerry Rice may think, the 49ers are ready to rule out Manning.
