Re: Where will McNabb land?
Allow me to recast the atmosphere here for a moment...
Which of these scenarios is more preferable for the Redskins? Scenario #1: McNabb agrees to pay back the ~$3M bonus he got last season (or 90% of it) and gets an immediate release before the CBA expires. Skins get some money back but get no picks or players for McNabb. The drama and the "distractions" are OVER. Scenario #2: The new CBA is not in force until mid June. There have been no OTAs or minicamps; Bruce Allen has 3 weeks to assemble the team, sign the draftees, figure out whatever the new cap rules are. Any offers he gets for McNabb are strictly "low-ball offers" (conditional 7th round pick). At that point, McNabb offers to pay them back the bonus money for an immediate release. Scenario #3: The new CBA is not in force until mid-June (or even later) and the Skins start training camp with McNabb, Grossman, Beck and "whatever rookie QB you happen to like most" on the roster. No meaningful offers for McNabb arrive and he is being a compliant player in camp. With no work for the rookie at OTAs or minicamp, there is no way he can start in 2011 (remember it takes a couple of years to grasp the intricacies of the Kyle Shanahan offense). So the Skins keep him around just in case Grossman gets hurt - - and then it is opening day. At that point, the Skins release McNabb to avoid having to pay him $10M+ as their back-up QB. It seems to me that the realistic choices are "release McNabb" or "trade McNabb". However, to accomplish the second you have to have another team willing to give the Skins something that they think is "fair value" and with other teams scrambling to put their squads together, his "fair value" is likely to go down -not up - if they hold on to him until the season is about to start. Personally, I would go with Scenario #1...

And... wait for it... we still have Haynesworth to deal with.

Have it out for you? No. Poke fun at you for adding nothing to the conversation? Always!
