Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
I didn't get a chance to listen to most of second half. I was questioning having Lattimore one on one with Drake because last year he torched Lattimore on Sunday night. I was hoping the coaching staff would adjust like they did in the TB game when Latimore was struggling with Evans but from what I heard no dice there.
IMO this was going to be a tough game regardless, after the ass kicking Atlanta got last week and then being down probably our two best players this was going to be tough but the offense put up enough points, the defense needed to step up

Frankly, it will not shock me to see us have a losing season and Top 10 pick. Our defense would be a big reason; if that occurred.

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Lattimore is getting roasted today. But remember, the Saints moved on from him for a reason. He is damaged goods. He's never going to be an elite corner again. He was on the downside of his career when Peters made the trade.
2-2 and a lot of injuries. Everyone has them so really no excuses. Get a road win next week and this week is forgotten. We all know this is a week to week league. |

I haven't been on here in a while , been crazy busy with coaching but I will say this whole franchise is not the same without JD5 on the field. The last 2 weeks have been very BLAH and that's with a win last week. We need him back and balling out ASAP

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
No he hasn't but I don't think the unit as a whole that was put together for him is impressive. It is relying on the parts to operate cohesively in order to have success and when it doesn't, we don't have a real game changer on the squad. No one that we can look at and say they are going to get the critical sack or deflection when it is needed.
Lattimore hasn't been right for 3 years and Trey is a rookie. The youngest starting LB we have is 29 which is geriatric in NFL terms. The front overall is just average. Payne and Kinlaw might be playing well now but would any of us be surprised if they tail off?

Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Goldman had a decent game yesterday. But Newton is a non factor. And Payne doesn’t consistently show that he’s a force.
The Chargers OL is crushed with injuries. Win that game and we are back where a lot of folks thought we’d be - 3-2 with losses expected with Green Bay and LAC. Every season you lose some you expect to win and hopefully steal a game or two as well. We need to win in LA and get on track. And the team overall can’t expect to show up every other week. Felt flat from the get go yesterday. Miss the fire from Terry. Hope the injuries stop. Apparently Jean-Baptiste tore a pec. I really hope that Preston Smith has something left. Yeah, JD provides the magic we need to rally.. I still believe the coaches made the right choice to sit JD as this is a long season plus playoff games.
We all knew that it would be very challenging for Peters to resolve all positions within 2 years. The Lattimore trade probably is something that Peters wish he hadn't made. |

Here are the (brutal) numbers through 4 games: • 20 targets against • 11 catches allowed • 173 yds • 9 first-downs allowed • 6 penalties • 3 15+ yard completions Honestly, I would sit him and put Igbinoghene in, and perhaps move Sanristil out of the slot to the perimeter (where he fare reasonably well last season). The safety spot has been a problem too, although Harris's injury is obviously a factor. To think that we thought the secondary might be a strength this season -- it has been the most under-performing personnel group on the team. Some of it seems to be coaching too -- they clearly aren't as comfortable in zone as they are in man-to-man, and it has shown in the last 3 games when receivers and TEs are not just open, but open by a mile. Every week, I find myself yelling at the tv "How the hell did that guy get so open?!" I am sure we all have. If our secondary just exhibited average play yesterday, that would have been a very different game. A lot of football left, and having JD5 back will help, but they need to get the back end of that defense together quickly or it's going to be a pretty ugly season. Dallas and the Ravens are experiencing this (their secondaries have been dreadful), and they're a combined 2-5-1.

Patience isn't a bad thing -- folks were saying that McCaffrey wasn't offering anything and he's been terrific on special teams and is finally contributing to the passing game too. I don't think he's the next Santana Moss, but he could very well develop into a very solid contributor for us. We need these young guys to develop -- Owens, McGee, and Sinnott all come to mind (Sinnott by the way was not good yesterday -- a couple of drive-stalling penalties on him). We just haven't seen their raw athleticism translate to success on the field; I have to believe some of that is coaching, which is a concern. The feel-good and brotherly love stuff is awesome, but we need coaches to be technicians as well, and I am starting of have some concerns about the defensive staff.

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Through 4 games, our stats (a little skewed because they don't account for tonight's game) are as follows:
Offense: Rush 2nd, Pass 24th Defense: Rush 16, Pass 28th JD5 coming back will undoubtedly help with our passing offense, and if we can sustain drives better, that will help our D stay off the field and should help our D overall. But there's a glaring weakness in the back end of our defense, and it simply isn't sustainable for a team that aspires to the playoffs. And our pass rush isn't terrible -- at 10 sacks, we're tied for 5th (although because several teams have 11, 12, and 13 sacks, we're actually 11th on the list). The real culprits seem like the CBs and safeties -- and it sure looked like it watching the last 3 games.
