Perfect match to what? The colors, maybe, the city? No So many other opportunities to rep the city better than an animal that is not indigenous. With all the history in that city there are far better options.

Cleveland naming the team the Guardians is a name that was off the radar for them. The Spiders and Blues has been thrown around for the last year and they picked a name off the radar, my hope is that is what happens here.

Exactly. And Redskins had nothing to do with the city, it was iconic because it was iconic. Sports teams use animals to represent the ferocity and the mentality of the sports team. Wolves is so natural to football, I just don't get the disdain and angst over it at all.

2. The first man brave enough to earn his redwings was from Detroit.

The Baltimore/Washington Bullets were originally the Chicago Zephyrs. Washington Zephyrs sounds a helluva lot better than Wizards.

That's true that name does suck! I'm in NY we have the Knickerbockers, which is stupid considering they are named after a style of shorts but it sound cooler as the Knicks.

I think Knickerbocker came to mean a an old time New Yorker who could trace his roots to the original Dutch.

It also inspired a beer that my uncle used to drink back in the day.
