Cooley comments on Jason Taylor

The whole thing is just weird to me. On the one hand, I can see where Taylor is coming from in terms of "hey we made an agreement before I was traded, my deal stays exactly the same for two years."

And then you have these comments by Cerrato, that make you say "WTF??" He's basically saying he's expecting to be able to make JT do what Parcells couldn't.

"We felt like to get the best out of him, because he didn't work out all last year, because he was doing dancing" they needed him to be at the complex, Cerrato said. "And that's what Bill had the problem with, because he wasn't in [Miami's] offseason program. We just wanted to get him in shape to make sure that he was in shape."

Cornerback Shawn Springs, released last Friday in a salary-cap move, did not participate in the workout program at the complex, preferring to train in Arizona. "People say, 'What about Shawn Springs?' But Shawn went to Arizona to work out, not at his home. He [Taylor] just wanted to stay home with his kids."

This is kinda like Larry Centers all over again. My guess is that Zorn (and/or maybe Blache) pushed for this (I think it's also in Hall's and Haynesworth's new contracts), and Cerrato was probably lukewarm about it. But I'm a bit surprised VC is surprised Taylor turned it down.

But, as I've said before, I have a hard time believing it was only about this workout clause. There had to be more to it.
