Well it sounds from Brett's sources that he was ticked that GB did not make any moves in FA to help the team so he decided to retire. It also sounds like Brett left them a mesage that he was retiring and if you noticed he was not present when his retirement was announced like in most cases when a big star retires from the NFL.
