here's why we didn't go after smith - he's going to cost an average of 2.5mill per year, and we only have 1.4mill in cap space.

that said, it's not like he has elite speed either. I still think the fallback 1st round option or our 3rd round pick can get us the same level of safety at a near vet min price.
