I think the pickups that Kyle Smith and Rivera will make late in the TC and PS this season will be more on the line of rookies or second or third year guys who were beat for the position. For instance, the Bears have 10 TE’s. If they get rid of 7, there might be one or two good one’s who just missed the cut on their team. Some of these pickups will be busts but a few may end up being like Flowers was last year - a guy who everyone thought was washed up but then had a good year, on a minimal one year salary. With our cap space carried forward, we’ll be able to add these new young guys to longer-term deals next season.

You may be right, we might get a couple older, short-term players but I think the team will be shooting for younger and talented players. BL - the draft and FA is done for most teams, but I think Kyle Smith will be lookin for unpolished gems that other teams let go (not trade) before the regular season starts.
