If it's the exclusive tag, no other teams can negotiate with Cousins and we pretty much are guaranteed to have Kirk Cousins through the 2017 season. If it's the nonexclusive, then other teams can negotiate and offer a contract, but the Redskins have the option to match. If they don't match the offer, then Cousins can sign with another team but that team gives up two first round draft picks.

It is my understanding the 2 first round picks would be the starting point of negotiations for the compensation, it could be more or less, and Cooley implied the other day that no team would actually give that much.
