During those days, the NFC East was the toughest division in football. I would have to say that the AFC West was a close second, with the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders combining for five Super Bowl appearances in the 1980s. Also, the Seattle Seahaws and San Diego Chargers, both AFC West teams, both made it to the AFC Championship game in the early 1980s. But they couldn't outgun the teams in the NFC East though.
