Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Yeah, he might turn out to be pretty good. Good to see the young guys play well when they get the chance.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Yea, we could do that.. But I was thinking, maybe activate Edwin Williams? That is unless coaches don't think he's ready, then perhaps we should sign someone.. Best fill in gap would be Kendall? Since he already knows our system?

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
They should get andrew crummey, he's not with Cincy or Atl, then we could have 3 terps on the OL.

...I'm still appalled at how so many Skins fans poo-pooed Rey as a guy who couldn't play at the pro level and would make a terrible SLB. Nooooo, let's take a pure DE instead and let him learn to be a LB ![]() Ah, I need to let it all go. I am real glad at the optimism about Rinehart hopefully stepping in at RG and making an impact. Let's see the mean streak he had in college come out this weekend

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
But again it goes back to the larger point of taking a pure DE and trying to put him in another position. So far it's been a shit-show and I really feel for Orakpo. Two games and he's got two tackles (as a SLB in our defense that's hard to stomach).
...it's another case of the FO not having it's cookies together...we were desperate for LB talent and Oline talent. DE turned out ok because Daniels came back as the starter anyway and Zoe is putting it together nicely. It just looks like the one hand has no idea what the other is doing...as the team puts together a decent dline the FO goes out and gets a guy who can't really fill a big hole on defense in Marcus' absence. I mean in Springs' case u can say Vinny at least made the attempt w/ Hall...putting Rak in as LB when we could have easily walked away from the draft w/ a monster at the position in Rey is sort of hard to wrap my mind around. It's not as goofy as Oakland's draft but it's still utterly bizarre it relation to the team's needs.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
I think it's wayyyy too early to be second guessing taking Orakpo. No ones entire career is going to be based on the first 2 games of their career. For all we know both Rey and Oher could get worse while Orakpo gets better.

I really hope Kendall comes back. Is Mike Williams active? Ray Brown still around?

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
When has the last time Joe Bugle has developed a rookie lineman to start for us. Oh It is undrafted Heyer. You would think Buges could pick a lineman in the late rounds to help develope into a started, oh we didn't draft a O-line this year we took linebackers. Hmmmmm when will we learn that our O-line is getting old and we need young blood.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
We said last season Kendall is old , now we want him back. Look we need to go with the back up players we have on the roster. Thats how young guys learn and gain experince so let Chad Rhinehart get his chance to play. If he plays poor than no point bringing him back after the season. As for Kendall what kind of shape is he in to play for us? Today we had trouble opening holes for Portis , so why not put big Mike Williams at RG and let him maul some people. It is time to let the Rookies play like every other team does. Sink or Swim Time.

Sorta like at SC- the Bengals' coaches are playing to Rey's strength (aggressive headhunting/playmaking) and you can only achieve that in a system that allows for such a player. Most NFL teams bypassed him because most d-coordinators don't want the headache of such a high risk-high reward player that may not fit into a structured scheme that relies on every player to remain in their zones. I bet if you were on this board before the 2000 draft, you would have been pretty amped on LaVar Arrington as well- the dude had pretty much the same MO as Rey coming out of school. Highlight hits, incredible speed and power, etc. His shortcomings were the same exact ones Rey had- inconsistency, tendency to overpursue, looking for the big hit instead of the solid tackle, slow to fill cut back lanes, etc. Do you honestly think Rey would be making a difference in DC? What makes him that much better than LaVar coming out of college? I was the biggest LA fan for most of his career , btw... Remember, 31 teams may not have drafted Rey not because he isn't a playmaker and won't make SportsCenter highlights once in a while... but maybe because their systems don't allow (or don't have the surrounding personnel) the luxury of a freelancing headhunter that makes crowds go "Ahhhh." It's been two games and I'm not yet ready to write off Orakpo for an Oher swap w/ a Rey miracle throw-in somehow (even though Oher is definitely the real deal for B-Mo). Did I just really defend a Longhorn over my own Trojan-in-arms? Somebody slap me... |
