I know he's not the future of the franchise but damn, why such an outpouring for guys who've never won a game for us, Colt or Sanchez?
Because Collins isn't the sexy draft pick brought in to carry the franchise on his back to the promised land....

Cerrato just isn't a big trade up guy anyhow. Snyder seems to be less worried about winning this time of year than he is about finding the youngest, most marketable athlete at any position. Unfortunately for Cerrato, his NFL legacy is going to be defined by the actions we do/do not take within the next week or so, so if he's ever going to stand up for what he believes is the best way to build the Redskins, now would be a pretty good time.

Snyder is all about winning when it comes to August, but the NFL is a 12-month sport now more than ever, and our intentions now seem to be counterproductive to our desires for the upcoming season.
What if the Seahawks offered the 4th and their 2nd for the #13 and Campbell? Would you do it?

You're right though, I don't think it'll happen anyway. Sanchez could be gone by pick #2. And Seattle might not want to pass him up at #4. You're also correct that this is Go Time for Zorn and Campbell. If they don't light it up and make a deep run into the playoffs, that will be the perfect opportunity for Snyder to wash his hands of the both of them.
Yeah, I'm definitely sure the O-line will be in better shape. Heyer is one more year along in his development. Randy Thomas is healthy and not in grave danger of being paralyzed now that he's had his neck surgery. Samuels should be 100% to start the year, and Dockery is a big addition. I fully expect us to add at least 1 more lineman in the draft, plus there's more FA time left. I think before the 2009 season gets underway, we'll be better along the O-line than in 2008.

I think that they'd want a bit more from us.

No. I really think Campbell will be a good QB in this league and don't think we should give up on him. I can see it now, the Boy King and his minion run JC out of town and he does what everyone said he couldn't and makes us look like fools. Give the guy a frickin chance.
If we did the trade, we have to draft one of the two QB'S given that either or one falls and I don't think either will be as productive as JC this year. If we had a guy like Aaron Rodgers in the wings, this would be an easier decision but we don't. Sorry Colt Cult, he isn't ready and wont be any time soon.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

This is from WalterFootball.com, discussing a scenario where we trade up to 8 for Sanchez. I tend to see it this way:

Redskins Trade Up for Mark Sanchez: Daniel Snyder is a smart businessman, but he's proven that he has absolutely no clue when it comes to football decisions. Though he traded up for Jason Campbell and never provided the Auburn product with a consistent playbook, Snyder now wants Mark Sanchez to be the face of his franchise. Snyder tried to trade Campbell this offseason, and he has the money to pay Sanchez top-10, or even top-five money.

The difference between the Nos. 8 and 13 selections is 250 points. The Redskins have the 80th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, which is worth 190 points, so they'd have to give up more. Not that doing so means much to Snyder; I suspect he'd be happy enough to relinquish next year's third-rounder as well.

As a football decision this makes no sense; by the time Sanchez is ready to take over as the starter, Chris Samuels, Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, Albert Haynesworth and Andre Carter will be past their primes. But how common is it that Snyder makes an intelligent football decision?

Are you related to him or something? Seriously, I've heard compelling arguments for Cutler and Sanchez, but Colt and Collins have no legitimate claims to any opportunity to start for this (or any) team at this point. You are quite alone on that island.

Noooooooo.....I can't listen to this speculation any more! Thank you for the story, Goat, but it is like Chinese water torture - drip, drip drip...

Personally I am adopting the position that the Sanchez talk is a smokescreen and am going into denial until Saturday.

Speaking of the devil the Cult of Colt really needs to stop embarrassing us on these mailbags (from Clayton's mailbag)...

Q: I can't figure out why the Redskins are in the middle of all these quarterback talks. Now there is talk of them looking at Sanchez. I know that when people think of the QB situation in Washington, they come up with Jason Campbell and Todd Collins, but Colt Brennan is the future of this team. That's right, I said it.

Word...and to think we've got 5 more days of this. If this is a smokescreen to get us players we actually need who can actually start I'll sing the praises of the FO until ya'll get sick of me.
