Honestly I think several people here have this misconception that you need to be the best team in the NFL with absolutely no holes in order to win the SB, when that's not often the case. Look at the Giants. Before the season if you had asked me I'd have said there's no way the Giants make the SB, let alone win it. But all they did was get hot at the right time and everything came together to make it happen for them. Same as it did 4 years ago. If we have an elite qb like Manning that can run the offense smoothly and put up points, and our opportunistic defense can fix a couple things, I see no reason as to why we couldn't go on a playoff run. You just have to be hot and have everything come together at just the right time. Nobody was willing to give the Giants a chance until they were in the SB, and then the only reason people were saying they have a chance to win was because of their past history against the Pats. Someone here (sorry, can't remember who) said that when you have an elite qb in place, it makes a lot of those other problems "disappear." I think that's definitely true. If Manning were here, considering the run game we could provide him and our solid yet unspectacular defense, I could easily see 10-6 or somewhere around there giving us the juice to get into the playoffs, and set us up for a run. Maybe not a SB run, but honestly in the NFL anything can happen.

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Yes. I can not see any scenario where PM says to himself "I have to play for the Redskins." The Skins are waaaaay too far away from being contenders and have no weapons for him to use. Manning is smart enough to recognize Washigton is just not a good option for him.

Now after the draft and FA, lets see then maybe this team is looking more like a polished turd, right now it is just a turd not diarrhea but a turd, maybe not even a smelly turd but definitely not a polished turd right now.

I think that you are right. Both the Giants and the Pats had some obvious holes in their rosters yet they played in the big dance. Why? In part because they had stellar QB play. Our defense is not bad on the whole. Our running game is not bad on the whole. A big time QB makes us an instant contender - maybe not a SB winner, but a contender.

I bet our defense will be even better next year. If we did have a happy/healthy Manning and a real #1 wide receiver I dont see why we couldnt hope to win 10+ games next year.

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
For some reason, people think that we are going to acquire Manning by giving up all of our draft picks and not adding anything during the offseason. Well I am sure people don't necessarily think that, but are definitely acting like it. The funny thing is that acquiring Manning would allow us to use our draft picks to get some solid players, including a project QB. Also, with Manning on board, wouldn't the likes of VJax, Bowe, or Colston want to come to the Skins and play with Manning?
If Manning comes here, he won't be coming alone. We could very well add a WR from the deep class of FAs this offseason. We could get a stud interior lineman (I keep hearing DeCastro is the best) in the middle/late first round, and add a whole bunch of quality players in the later rounds. And we could also add our QB of the future. We could hopefully replicate what Kurt Warner did for Arizona when he went to play for them (and Warner was thought of being done after having a poor showing with the Giants). I am fine with trading up for RG3, but I know the team would need to spend a lot in free agency, since I am sure we would need to use a lot picks in a trade. I think in this situation, we would need to be ready for another year of growing pains. Right now as it stands, we are not a contender or a playoff team. However, if we land Manning, one of the top FA WRs, and a quality first/second/third rounder rookies (including our QB of the future), we could very well be a playoff team next season and still have a lot of youth that will carry this team for years to come.

A healthy Manning can pick apart any defense with just about any offensive line. As I mentioned before, if we sign him we have the draft ammunition to pick up good offensive linemen in the draft and there are some nice options in free agency. Finally, I would dare say that we probably have a better running game than anything the Colts have had in the past two/three seasons. And we've had a good running game during times when teams would stack the box and dare us to throw. You think with Manning under center they would do that?

The Redskins are not just any QB upgrade away from being a Super bowl contender but they may be the right QB away.

@BillLekas @Redskins Absolutely in play for Manning. Still convinced it will be a disaster, but I guess there is a small chance proven wrong

the colts with Manning historically win about 12 games year - no matter who the coach is. manning makes average receivers, average running backs, and below average offensive linemen look GREAT. Receivers, running backs, and tight ends who leave indy never amount to anything. Manning turns his supporting cast into playmakers, not the other way around. Manning, no matter how humble he may seem, knows this. He won't discount a team like washington because we dont have enough "playmakers." Without Manning, the Colts are 2-14. Without Manning, we are 5-11. Without Manning, we were outscored by our oppenents an average of 3.125 points per game. Think about that. Even with "no receivers," "no offenive line," "a weak running game," and a quarterack who averages atleast 2 interceptions per game at critical junctures, we were within about one field goal from being able to win most of our games. Does anyone here think that, on average, Manning would not atleast give us one more touchdown and one less turnover than grossman per game? even if he's not 100% the manning of old? Say what you want about our talent and coaching staff, but we are most certainly a better coached and more talented team than the Colts. We have a defense that would not constantly put him in holes, as his defense historically did in indy. In my opinion,if Manning came here, we would be a 12 win team immediately. We could WIN while we groom a young QB for the future. There is ZERO downside to signing a healthy peyton manning. We should do whatever we need to to acquire him.
