Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.

According to Adam Schefter

Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's contract voided and he will be allowed to become a free agent without the Oakland Raider being able to use their franchise tag on him, according to an NFL Players Association document. Asomugha’s deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn’t achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 -- and he didn'’t.

No doubt I would in a heartbeat, he's a team guy and a true shutdown corner, let Los walk and sign NA. We could play true man to man plus he's only 30, I see Dallas getting him though

I hope they can't solve their issue's with simple number crunching.

Anybody know what our cap situation will be given the possible new salary cap?

Maybe this helps....
NFL: Teams most hurt, helped by salary-cap proposal - ESPN

Quote:
Teams affected positively:
1. Washington Redskins: Owner Dan Snyder gave defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and cornerback DeAngelo Hall around $36 million in bonus money in 2010 to free up room to be a big spender in free agency in 2011. Snyder and Mike Shanahan will have to be creative in how they structure contracts, because the $120 million cap would give them only around $10 million of cap room. On the positive side, the Redskins' current payroll is $75.7 million, meaning Snyder would have to spend close to $45 million in cash to meet the potential minimum floor requirements. Imagine a system that forces Snyder to spend.

Teams affected negatively:
4. Dallas Cowboys: Owner Jerry Jones made sure his team wouldn't be ripped apart during tough labor times. He's always aggressive in re-signing his top players. But the Cowboys are currently a minimum of $18.9 million over the salary cap, which could spell doom for right tackle Marc Colombo, wide receiver Roy Williams and others. Jones also has to come up with some room to re-sign left tackle Doug Free and others.

His price is going to be sky high, great player though.

NA is the type of player that you sign if you are 2-3 pieces away from being a true contender. We just have too many holes to throw that much money at one position.

Well, I don't think we're a contender in 2011 with or without Asomugha. But he's not the quality of player that a team can decide to add later when it's more ready to compete. And if this team isn't planning on being a division champion in 2012, not only should they not go after Asomugha, but they should fire Shanahan immediately. There are far better coaches out there to rebuild under. Shanahan needs to put the team in the playoffs.

Probably another conversation for another thread but IMO he's not the guy for the job cause the team needs an overhaul.

If Revis is not the best CB in the NFL, then Asomugha is.

The option clause in his contract that was voided was worth a minimum of $16.4M. Don't think he is going to sign for anything less than that.

The Redskins have been known to pay top dollar to players who really do not have a ton of other offers in hand during free agency. Phat Albert comes to mind here... However, Asomugha will have plenty of interest and offers so the Skins will need to come hard with their offer. More than likely, this is a guy who will go to the high bidder - - - unless he takes a shorter price to go with a Super Bowl contender next year.

I ditto that. You need to spread the wealth around to be able to plug as many gaps this offseason as possible, then you have maybe more cap space in 2012 and maybe fix the leaky hull of the SS Redskins.

completely agree.

we can get alot more for our money... we need bulding blocks. no one player is going to spring us into contention. sure it would be nice to have him for five years, but how much can one corner really do for us.
