champ wasn't that good and he wanted too much money, he was gone either way... did you see him in the national games lat year? he kept falling down and getting burned deep, over and over again. Sure he has a lot of tackles, but thats because people are catching the balls in front of him. Denver also decided to pick up THREE more CBs in the draft this year for whatever reason...
i remember everyone in the media saying smoot couldn't live up and springs wouldn't be nearly as good... but springs had a pro-bowl season (whether he officially won the title or not) and he cost less than HALF of what champ was going for.
if we didn't get portis we would have gone for dillon and not a rookie anyways... and dillon has always been a solid RB.
