It goes to show that A) it can be done--taking a bad 4-3 defense and turning them into a 3-4 defense that is near the top the next year. Just like how when shanahan took over we had a top 10, 4-3 defense, and then we suffered badly the next year falling to 31st with our new 3-4 defense.
Last year our defense started off as a top 10 defense, but then we fell midway through the season to 13th. This season, if our defense remains intact and for the most part healthy, I will will declare our defense a failure if it isn't in the top ten this year. Middle of the pack isn't a bad ranking by nfl.com, but its not that good of a ranking either considering fhere I expect us to be and where we should be.
