Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
What we do in FA QB wise should have nothing to do with what we do in the draft QB wise. Do we want to have Grossman and Beck back next year? no. So there will be a need to fill 1 spot with a Vet. The other with a drafted QB.
Free Agency:
Flynn- my choice only because he's still young and healthy. Showed he can make all the throws. The question...can he play all 16 games well and mistake free?
Orton- with the Bears he replaced Grossman because of injury. During the play offs Grossman replaced Orton. Orton didn't see the field for 2 yrs after. Basically a backup. If he can't beat Grossman there is a problem. Nuff said. I don't want him.
Peyton Manning- Best there is if healthy but thats the question. Money is not an issue since we have 40-45 mill, no way he commands near that amount. Plenty of room to sign other FA's. Healthy he's obviously the starter allowing whatever Rookie to develope. If he's not healthy by Sept. the Rookie starts. For this reason alone I'm interested in PM.
Draft:
Luck- not available. Colts. but if he is not picked would be nice to have him at #6.
RGIII- No matter what the team does in FA they can still trade up and get RGIII if they so choose. He's a top talent and the only thing that makes him different then other top talents is his legs. Are his legs worth it to move up? I don't think so. If he falls to #6 take him otherwise there is no need to mortgage the team. Its a luxury to have him but we could get 3 or 4 more players to fill spots in other positions. Would you trade the same picks for Flynn? cause he's just as much of an unknown. Although he has played in 2 games and proven he can beat a really good Lions defense. RGIII has not even done that.
The Rest- I see the rest as a big group because I don't see any one QB standing out from each other or atleast not that far from each other. I might also be in the minority in thinking that almost anyone of them with a good OL, and talented WR's could possibly start and provide us with a half decent season. Better then Grossman or Beck. Optimism at its best. I'd look for a tall 6'3" or 6'4" + QB around the 240 range which is what Ben Rothlesburger is. Solid and hard to bring down.
Again I don't see how FA should hinder what we do in the draft. We could get PM who almost no one would argue he's one of the best QB's when healthy and still trade up for RGIII. Get a couple FA WR's and draft some OL. If PM is healthy we win with the best QB in the league and RGIII developes and learns from the best. If PM is not ready to start then RGIII starts. So PM really shouldn't matter to the RGIII fans. If nothing else they should want him since they think he's done. RGIII would start.
I personally like the idea of PM if we can't get Flynn. I don't mind RGIII if he fell to #6 sure take him, but I'd rather use the other 2 draft picks this year to trade back if possible and turning 2 picks into 4. This brings in more youth, more speed, more help, and more talent to back up someone if there is an injury. Look we kept all of our draft picks last year if I'm not too far off and the majority started at some point. I'd love for us to do that again.
But face facts... this team is gunna want 1 Vet and a drafted Rookie going into next year. I'd rather it not be Grossman or Beck as the Vet. No Flynn- take PM. We'll worry about the draft a month later. After we see what we can do in FA and what talent we bring in.
