I know what you mean about the bandwagon fans. I've been playing hockey for close to 17 years. I played for UMD, and grew up in Frederick playing for the Phantoms turned Fury. It's tough to see all of these people who act like they've been caps fans and have followed the team forever. But, hey - at least they can't say our fanbase is weak anymore...haha.
Its bound to happen when a team gets good...you know?

damn thats sweet you got to play hockey for so long. i played when i was young then about 14 stopped playing. luckily i was able to play college lax.
back in teh day we had caps season tickets from the mid 80s to mid 90s. saw every freakin game they played, got to go back in the locker room. they would send us all-paid to see playoff games.
shoot, the caps gave me and my brother official official caps equipment. each set probably cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. now that i think about it, that might have been when they were still wearing the red white and blue but switched to that god awful blue and gold.
don beaupre goalie sticks, lou fransecitti sticks, langway, bondra, bobby gould, etc..
it was a different time back then, when hockey players were nothing more than guys who played hockey.
JLW you remember LOUUUUUUUUUUU! he was the man.
i do find it hard to root for the caps now thoo, dont know why, maybe subconciously i do hold something against this new breed of caps fans who dont know ridley, miller, pivonka, gustafson, murphy, langway, dino, sheehy, john trip over the blue line druce, sally johanson, bob mason, pete peeters, etc.... its weird, i should be happy that the caps are now the pens of the 90's with their high scoring offense. so many years of blue collar scrap it out hockey got replaced by 4 on 4s and rules enforced to open the ice.
