Certainly can be argued that we "overvalued" him, but I think the context should be considered. The other teams might've also just been lowballing w/their 4th. Vinny has taken players in the draft that were rated lower by most teams (e.g. rinehart, glenn, brooks, kelly), this move might be just the same.
Eeach team's situation has to be considered. Philly e.g. liked him but they probably want some flexibility w/their 3rd rounder next year & they are not in great need of a young DE as far as I know. Detroit has so many needs that they didn't want to go too low, but because they were #1 in draft order, their submission of a 4th for Jarmon would've beaten anyone else's 4th.
Bottom line, if they liked him enough to draft in the 3rd round it was a good move. Despite the no. of DEs on the roster, there isn't a young viable starter alongside Carter. Even if Rak becomes srictly a DE, Carter is getting to the age where his speed rush isn't as speedy.
