It sure is easy to convince ourselves that paying a 3rd for a marginal mid rounder is a great thing.
Bottom line...we didn't need to use this pick now and our pressing needs for picks are LB and Oline and potentially QB and RB...
A 3rd rounder is key with all these roles, now we dont have one and we are pigeon holed into Oline for one of our only 2 top picks.....would I be pissed if we used a 3rd next year on a DE?....no...but I am unsure that this guy would stack up against typical mid round 3rd rounders. This guy may end up being nothing more than a backup. Maybe I am greedy but a 3rd rounder needs to be a starter in year 2 to be considered sucessful.
That is a lot to ask of this guy....it is certainly seeing the glass half full.
Don't let me be a downer....just drink the kool-aid and be happy.
Its just funny that some of you were saying you'd be pissed if we used a 3rd on here and are now rationalizing how great it is.
I am unhappy about using a 3rd on this guy...I would have even been a bit squirly about a 4th...but I think that would have been fair.

I think the thing I am pissed the most is that we continue to go into drafts without our top 3 picks year after year.
While you are entitled to your opinion, I think that a 3rd rounder o-lineman next year would not automatically fix everything. Personally I think next year we need to pick an offensive tackle/guard in the first round, and sign a solid young free agent lineman. Furthermore, we need to see how the likes of Heyer, Rinehart, Jeremy Bridges, and Mike Williams are going to work out. Plus, I think between Scott Burley and Edwin Williams you are bound to find a diamond in the rough (since apparently Maryland is slowly becoming a good training ground for offensive lineman )

PS: I don't think this is a GREAT pick, but I think it is worth the risk. I mean look at Baltimore and how Jared Gaither worked out? (Maryland, hollah!)
